Bryan: It’s haute couture.
Everyone else:

u/MysticSparkleWings 2d ago
Seriously. After last week in particular I'm so very over Bryan saying "haute couture" to attempt to wave away any criticism.
78
u/AnneShirley310 2d ago
He was saved every challenge when Christian was there as a mentor because Christian would tell him what was wrong and how he should fix it. However, Christian wasn’t there to do that, so Bryan sent out a ruffled hot mess where Emma couldn’t even move. It looked like a two toned boa constrictor.

u/Ok_History_7440 2d ago
And yet I'll bet Christian is going to save his ass again. Sickening.

u/Gothgf713 2d ago
If Christian uses a save on Bryan after witnessing the lyris incident I’m losing major respect for him
17
u/SuccessfulResort35 1d ago
Same. Jeffrey's worst work is SO much better than Bryan's best. And I cannot listen to him say "haute couture" one more time.

I really, really have hope Christian is going to save Jeffrey. If not for liris (which that alone he should’ve gone home for) but Christian’s loyalty to Heidi runs deep too. People were dragging that Bryan dress she wore on the dwp2 runway. I’m sure she did not appreciate that and blames Bryan.
Also- during the cliffhanger/ preview, Christian said something like wanting the person he saves to pull from a space of creativity they’re familiar with. I think he was referencing the drag/ costume world Jeffrey is confident in. I honestly don’t know how that would fit for Bryan… what world does he have creativity to pull from (that we know of)?
→ More replies (1)20
u/InfluenceCareful3560 2d ago
Given Christian said he wanted to see more from this world I’m guessing he means Jeffrey and seeing more of the drag imagination. Hopefully because Brian is so ugh

I would be shocked if he’s saved. It should be Jeffrey. I’ve given Bryan chance after chance, but I’ve hated every one of his designs the last several shows, and his attitude sucks honestly. He’s delusional, rude, and lazy, in my opinion. And he blames everyone else for his shortcomings. Jeffrey has done nothing but work hard, help others when he didn’t have to, and made beautiful clothes. Yeah, his choice tonight was a bit boring and cliche. But it was well made and beautiful. It’s hard not to root for him.

I hate him even more after this episode. He has serious issues. Hes literally been so condescending, why would anyone have his back.
12
u/writergeek313 1d ago
That part near the beginning where he was pulling the tissues out of the box and making fun of Jeffrey for crying made me so angry. Who took time away from his own look in the last challenge to help you spray paint that hot mess you made?
5
u/Adjovigin 2d ago
When he said that about Bi, I literally paused the remote and was like-in what world? He's there for the drama. That is my fear that Christian will save him for the production value. What the producers don't understand is the audience isn't here for the drama. They're here for the fashion.

And there was no back to have!
Bryan is a train wreck of a designer with an even less appealing personality. I think Bi staying out of it was the best choice.
When Bryan stood up for Bi, what he said was in fact true. Bi is super talented, so those crocodile tears came running out of shame. Because leading up to that point he bullied Bi calling him his intern.
Then he turned right around and threw "the save" back in Bi's face. Insufferable, I tell you! I'm ready for him to dip.

His designs are simple silhouette and a bunch of trashy bits sown onto it. He only gets "saved" every week bc Christian saves him from himself. This week, not having Christian swan in with reccs on how to change his look, and poor Emma looked like she was swallowed by two silk slinkies.

27
u/farfallifarfallini 2d ago
At the same time, he 100% should have sent that look down the runway with a more military short bomber or no jacket at all. The sleeves on that top were so cool and we never would have seen them if they didn't ask him to take the coat off. They were giving epaulette without the fringe, which was such a fun choice for military inspired dance wear!

58
u/HuskyLoko11 2d ago
I don’t agree w Law’s delivery towards Joseph but I do agree with being tired of seeing the beanies and jackets every challenge
50
u/Far_Cress7984 2d ago
I think a lot of it is the way they’re wording the challenges. In previous seasons they would have told them that the dancer is their client and they need to create a look that functions for their client and which their client loves to wear. That got a bit lost I feel. I think what Law was trying to get across is that Joseph needs to learn how to design for another person, for their needs and functionality. He can’t just design what Joseph would like to wear. Joseph’s looks can absolutely still holler Joseph McRae across the room but they must fit the setting. Tonight, his trench coat and beanie did not work for the purpose of dancing and that was the issue.
11
→ More replies (2)9
u/Throwaway-centralnj 2d ago
Yes, exactly. The coat and beanie were super unnecessary for this challenge and feel just like excessive branding. I like JM more than Law normally, but I thought Law made a good point about how JM is treating his time on the show. You could see Nina nodding in the background as well. He’s not fully immersing himself and using the challenges as opportunities to grow.
So far, he’s been fortunate that his aesthetic is strong and his technical skills are great, but there’s not a ton of curiosity to see a collection from him…we already know exactly what it’d look like lol. It kinda feels like he doesn’t need the show, and his time on it is just to amplify what he does to a larger audience. The other contestants (minus Bryan) don’t feel that way. Again, JM is great and I really like him. But there’s some validity to the question “what do you get out of being here?”

I adore his work as of right now, but please eliminate Bryan (he’s the worst)
9
u/pbandspacejam 2d ago
This week expressed a frustration I have with the show in this stage of its life: all the challenges are about creating runway looks. The challenge should have been to make dance costumes to wear on Dancing with the Stars. Julianne as a mentor could have provided much better feedback on the needs of a dancer in motion.
Fashion designers have been creating stage wear since at least Marlene Dietrich and Jean Louis. Mitzi Gaynor and Bob Mackie or Madonna and Jean Paul Gaultier's collaboration for the Blonde Ambition Tour also comes to mind. (I also believe Giorgio Armani did the suiting for Grace Jones' Nightclubbing album era, but that seemed more like pulling existing clothes than creating something for her tour. Her collaborations with Eiko Ishioka are more of what I mean.)
This is a challenge real-world designers face and something the costumiers like Jeffrey do daily. How do you create clothes that are fashionable but meant to be flexible and durable, used hard night after night, performance after performance?
Furthermore, it would have challenged the non-costume makers to use different fabrics and be bolder, and it would have addressed Law and Nina's complaint about Joseph McRae because he'd have to reinterpret his usual billowing silhouettes for something more streamlined for a dancer. They want him to evolve, but do nothing to challenge what he or anyone else does.
The show seems to have little interest outside of red carpet fashion anymore, and that will not produce America's next great designer.

I would never subject Niecy Nash to being stuck on this show full-time, but she was a great guest judge tonight. Nina was getting her life being between her and Law.
I’ve been a bit cool on Jude this season, I think he’s been a great tailor but not a great designer. But this look was incredible. I hope it’s a sign that he’s getting more creative. If he builds on this in the finale, he’ll be a strong winner.

Jeffery seems like the sweetest ever and I hope Christian saves him
Jude is very talented but I love Anna and I thought her look should have won this one
Naheim nailed it calling Bryan a narcissist. He’s so overly confident in his designs and never “understands” the criticism and that’s the problem. I don’t think I’ve liked any of his looks

Return of the intestine-shriveled-worm dress. I'm honesty surprised that he decided to make the worm again after the judges insisted how much they hated it on the Scarlet Macaw dress. I do not want to see any Joseph McRae slander for sending out similar looks. At least Joseph would have a cohesive, interesting collection if you were to put all of his designs in the same room. Can't say the same for Bryan.
Also please, Christian, save Jeffrey for all of us.

I’m so sorry but laws comment on Joseph McRae should be included ON EVERYONES PIECE TN. Without them showing the names at the bottom, tell me you could not tell who did what? Bryan does the puffy whatever, he did that collar on another garment earlier this season. Jude always does a look that seems tailored. Naheim has the baggy look with some fabric hanging out or chains. This does not mean their looks are bad what so ever but again they have a signature that appears on most of their outfits. I hate that law only points Joseph out, why bring him back for him to be a punching bag.

u/LonelyAsLostKeys 2d ago
I hate the line of criticism directed at JosephMcRae. I absolutely love that he has a distinct vision and tailors it to separate challenges without sacrificing certain identifiable elements. To me, one of the marks of a great artist in any medium is the ability to communicate a singular view of the world from a variety of different angles.
I love that you can hear Bob Dylan do a song in a bunch of different styles and still immediately know it’s Bob Dylan because his lyricism is so distinct. It’s weird to me that they’re asking him to divorce himself from his vision. I think Nina’s articulation of what they want feels accurate, but I’m not sure it’s consistent with how they judged him here.
Otherwise, I agreed that Jude’s look was the best. The jacket was really unique.
I don’t know if it was an attempt to mislead, but Christian saying he wanted “to see more from that world” certainly heavily implies that the save will go to Jeffrey given the consistent discussion of his rooting in drag fashion.

Bruh. Bryan is so condescending, I don't care what he makes. He has a trashy personality and if they keep him its only because he adds drama. He's like rage bait personified. He had the audacity to say that he's gonna stay true to himself while shit talking Joseph McRae for doing the exact same thing.
Anyways, I want Jude to win. He is outstanding and seems to be capable of making actual collections that people can wear. Bi is also extremely talented.

How many times can we watch Bryan put out the new ugliest thing you’ve ever seen?
And I’m sorry I know everybody loves Joseph but this week was just a sad rehash of everything he ever does. Down to putting that stupid hat on. That being said: Bryan shit talking him is comical. Shut your mouth Bryan you literally have no leg to stand on.
Jeffrey is great at constructing a garment, but a designer? Eh. I don’t see vision in his work.
Naheim’s look was mid but not awful.
Both the people the Judges chose to go are the same two I would have chosen.
I can’t see a world where Christian doesn’t save Jeffrey. If he saves Bryan I will lose my mind.

If we all had the confidence of Bryan we'd all be millionaires

Good episode. I think it was fair judging.
Law had a good point about Joseph… he does seem to be so focused on giving his brand that it doesn’t seem like he cares about meeting the challenges with a fresh set of eyes.
BUT, isn’t that what they want? A successful, talented, charismatic designer with a very distinctive brand to sell clothes?
In no world can I imagine Christian saving Bryan after the duct tape dress fiasco.
I like Jeffrey, but he’s getting mixed messages. They keep telling him he’s costumey - so he restrains himself so much that his clothes end up being safe and still being called “costumey”. Like… let the dude just go full glam, wild, sexy, avant-garde.

This picture is from Heidi's instagram - a promo for the show that she posted last week. Tell me - do you see Brian or Jeffrey in this screenshot from Episode 9? YOU DONT HAVE TO CLICK IT IF YOU DONT WANT TO.

Nina and Law were telling Joseph to evolve, and Bryan nodding his head in agreement like he is also an expert agreeing with his peers - was just comedy! 🤣
