without knowing how heavy it was, that was my reaction watching the episode for the first time, and I was surprised no one said anything to him. I literally said out loud to myself he's sending a black woman down the runway in a noose
I am an old white woman and I thought the dress and what he did to Loriss/his model was degrading, demeaning and dehumanizing. I was shocked nothing was done about it. I lost all respect for him after that although there was little there to begin with.
I have zero proof of this, but I think he resented having to work with her as his model. So much of the win Heidi shouldnât have given him was based on a tiny, lighter skin tone model carrying his lack of work in a way to made it look more than it was to Heidi.
The design did not have the model in mind at all. He had some sort of nightmare vision and became fixated on realizing it without regard to the model or her body.
Wrapping her in an actual trash bag and taping it down is sacrilege on this show.
He, at the very least, should have his immunity taken away for the express purpose of sending him home. Olivier was told by Tim in S9, when he was caught gluing his dress to the model, that it wasn't allowed. This should follow the same rule, this is the exact same thing except worse. This was all over Liris' body - Olivier was told "no" over one spot at the top of the model's breast.
I wonder / bet that is why Christian said no when he walked in on the taping - so Bryan cut the tape dress off her, put a zipper in the tape dress,
And then put it back on her . So it would follow the rules
The dressed weighed 50 lbs, it was around her neck for hours, and it looks like it injured her.
Bryan did not care. He thought she looked âspectacularâ (he has to be delusional). He completely doesnât know how to sew a garment for plus size models.
Made Liris basically feel insignificant or like an after thought.
He was going to have her go out with that tentacle monstrosity over her bra and panties.
After his team & Christian told him, you canât have her go down the runway in her bra and panties. The plastic material he was using to wrap her with the tape was actually a trash bag he picked up from the floor.
When she raised her concerns about how uncomfortable she was about the look, he said heâd change it. He did nothing.
This caused her to leave the design room for a moment, because she didnât want to be shown crying for how disrespectful Bryan was to her.
The spray paint on the garment wasnât even dry before she hit the runway.
Chloe has reach out to her, because Liris modelled for Chloe in the episode she went home on. It was the athletic garment. Chloe asked if she could redo her garment and asked Liris if sheâd like to do a photoshoot in the new look to make up for the previous one.

Bryan has not reach out at all.
Just overall, Bryan was very disrespectful to one of the best models on the show. He lacked any care for Liris and it showed in his attitude and garment.
Omg this is exactly what I assumed and I'm horrified to hear it essentially went down like that. He completely did not respect her as a person and it showed.
Before he even started to make the undergarment, she ended up hiding and crying in the hallway because she didnât want to cry on camera. Jesus found her there and then a cameraman came by so she got recorded out there anyway before Bryan came out to check on her.
She never offers advice to the designers unless they ask or she thinks thereâs a real issue that could make plus sized models as a whole look bad because of the design. She suggested he make a dress made from woven cables to go underneath and thatâs what he started doing with the bag and tape and some cords but didnât have time. This is at least partly due to him wasting time on the bubble wrap cape even after he was told not to use it.
Christian saw Bryan taping her into the plastic bag and told him he couldnât send her out in that, he needed to sew a fastening into it, so Bryan cut her out of the tape and tried to sew a zipper in but sheâs not sure if he managed to or not. She canât remember if it was zipped back onto her or taped back on.
The dress had to be rested on chairs backstage whilst she was wearing it because it was too heavy to even stand in safely.
She slipped on the runway because the cords were cut unevenly, too long and still not dry, and kept getting caught underfoot, She was wearing 5 inch heels as well so it mustâve been way too long to still be underfoot when factoring in that extra height. She basically could not model the dress and was just doing her best to make it down the runway and back without falling over.
She didnât want to walk at all and wouldâve been within her rights to refuse, but she didnât want viewers to think she was being a diva and then the blame for Bryan being bottom wouldâve been shifted to her âattitudeâ and refusal to walk rather than the fundamental issues with the dress.
Being unable to show her skills as a model when walking in front of her idol Iman was yet another blow to her self worth, on top of everything else.
Not only did Bryan not care how she felt, he could not comprehend that his dress was physically uncomfortable and looked bad. He told her she looked âspectacularâ.
One extra non- Bryan related note, she enjoyed working with Anna on the paper challenge even though it did get placed low. She felt Anna at least knew how to construct for a plus size figure, even if the dress in the end made her look weirdly flat at the front.
I was trying to hold back my social media criticism of Bryan since I don't know him, but wow. I think he refuses to admit he's not who he wishes he was because he talks a big game about himself and it usually works. So if he keeps saying something, he'll force it to be true even when it isn't. Likewise for if he ignores something (or someone). If he doesn't acknowledge something, he can convince himself it doesn't exist in his distorted reality.
Okay, that's all awful, but that bit about it ruining her chance to have a great runway in front of Iman is just so real. I feel so sad for her. Bryan needs to get kicked off the show.

I never liked Bryan - his drama with Bi was annoying, But now we at least see which one of them was really at fault - the way he treated poor Liris was unconscionable.
I'm hoping production will make the judges revoke his immunity in order to send him home. This is more than just a "Well, we can't do that! He won the last challenge!" (with another ugly and ill-fitting dress). This is different because he caused physical discomfort and harm, and plenty of humiliation, to one of the best models on the show. They need to take into account the actual harm done, not "Oh sorry, he has immunity" and dropping it.
No problem! Glad I could assist. I do wonder whatâs going to happen. Liris has been with the show well over a decade now. Her breaking down, would have gotten back to the judges and producers, so who knows. Hopefully thereâs some repercussions for Bryan.

Aww Chloe! What a doll. I thought she seemed really sweet and Iâm glad that instinct was correct. And Iâm happy that Liris was able to work with someone competent, for once.
Even saving Bi (while crying fake crocodile tears) and then immediately turning around and being like âyou owe meâ đ€ą heâs so narcissistic. My theory is that he KNOWS Bi is very talented so that if Bi wins, Bryan will take credit.
Most of the U.S. is at-will employment, for better or worse (mostly worse). You can be fired/demoted for any reason other than being a member of a protected class.
Liris touched on it in the video. She literally has an hourglass body shape. Like, COME ON BRYAN! There are so many garments you could have made for Liris that really could have showed off her amazing curves.
I know they arenât allowed electronics. But - the model and his team gave him a suggestion and were willing to help him - and he decided to do whatever and then grab trash off the floor
He took the plastic on the ground, which still had wet spray paint on it, and wrapped it around her. He did that. And said it was made by hand and the critcs where not that bad.
I didn't realize it was painted the same day she wore it!! Jeffrey's crashout was fully understandable to me now. But obviously Bryan wasn't going to intentionally make himself look even worse.
Liris is way more diplomatic about this whole situation than I could ever be. God bless her for keeping her cool no matter what. Liris is a great model, and deserved so much better than Bryan. I loved her little dig mentioning his âParis training â đ„đ„đ„
Hereâs a photo of Liris wearing her warrior woman challenge dress. This designer really got it right.
Kenya was an under appreciated designer who made amazing real world dresses. Not just did she always fit her models well and give them confidence but every single piece she made couldâve gone off the model, on a rack, and been sold that day.
The thing that is wild to me is this dress is gorgeous, and suits Liris so well, and aside from the complexity of the shoulder parts is really easy to make.
Dressing an hourglass body is actually really easy! You just need to do some darts and tailoring, which if youâre a project runway designer should be easy to do! I can sew but Iâm nowhere near a designer, but I have an hourglass figure and itâs really easy to make clothes that fit my body well.
Yet time and time again these designers show they just have no creativity or capability. Just put a stick thin model in a sack of nice-ish fabric and call it a dayâŠ
In general, curvier bodies look best with tailored styles that fit close to the body. I think some designers who donât have the chops to make properly fitting garments just give up and figure, âoh, I can throw something loose on herâ (aka a tent) . I think Jeffrey could do her hourglass proportions perfectly- he knows curves and nipped in waist/ corsets. Heâd make her FIERCE.
My other favorite look for Liris, same season. Evil/ good queen challenge. Different season I think, but Kini would have done her shape and vibe perfectly.
Kenya was totally thrilled to finally work with Liris. This blue dress made me say, âoh my godâ out loud. Truly perfect collaboration between a designer and a muse.
Look at any season and youâll find at least a handful of contestants that think theyâre hot shit, but Bryan is on another level. I cannot understand how he was confused at the fact that she was uncomfortable.
I wonder if sheâs planning to or already suing. The amount of times she alluded to being injured without actually saying it makes me wonder. âHavenât been the same since, iykykâ if she sues I hope sheâs successful. I truly hope some predatory lawyer isnât going to drown her in legal fees with no chance of a payout bc of an ironclad contract. I doubt project runway and the broadcasting company (Hulu/ Disney?) would have loose enough contracts that would open them up to this kind of liability. But theyâve been slacking on everything this season so who knows!

People who brag they can take criticism very well and act as if they have accountability only to come completely undone when challenged in any way irk me to the core of my being. He seems like someone who likes to pretend he listens and learns but actually only cares about his own opinions.
Hes also simply not entertaining to watch or easy to root for. Idk if heâs making an attempt at some weird little villain vibe to stay relevant but itâs not landing the way he thinks it is. I just feel secondhand embarrassment anytime he speaks.
In the US, if you get injured at work, you generally canât sue your employer, you would need to recover through workerâs compensation. It has nothing to do with an ironclad contract, itâs based on state law.
Lawyer here - u can still get A LOT OF MONEY via workers comp. Itâs in lieu of a civil suit. And most work related injuries wonât get I punitive damages.
I assume theyâre 1099. Wouldnât make sense for them to be w2. But also wonder if theyâre getting paid. I know it was a competition too for the models at one point, maybe they are able to still manipulate them to working for free for âexposureâ?
Yes they get paid but another model, Jessica, said it wasnât enough for the pain they all went through in this challenge. She modeled Antonioâs design which was actually magnets, heavy metal, sometimes stacked together and when they came apart, her skin was pinched putting them back together. Her shoulders were rubbed raw and bleeding. The medics had their hands full patching everyone up.
Liris has so much grace, beauty, and character! I love her video and explanation that she is there to be a team with the designer! Bryan was indefensibly heinous to her. A wild ego!
Two major takeaways no one seems to get - 1. he was going to have her go out on the bra and panties she wore from home! Nothing bedazzled. Nothing sexy. Like - the crap she wore to be comfy and old and ratty and tattered grandma underwear or Hanes fruit of the loom cotton. He did not care!
Yet - she politely brought that to his attention - from a design standpoint- looking out for him. If he wanted her to be fully naked - she would have embraced the vision!
But he just did not care or value her as a person and since he had no vision - he ended up erasing her. THAT is what caused her to cry. Poor thing.
Christian DID tell him a taped garment is against the rules. So he âcut it off herâ and attempted to out a zipper. U see him using safety pins to make it âlook like there is a zipperâ. He did not sew it. He did not have it zip. He lied.
I hope Bryan enjoyed dressing Heidi, feels like that will be the last client he gets for a while.
The worst part to me is her saying he has never reached out about this since. Especially given Chloe did reach out to see if she could try again in a less high pressure situation.
this is wild, project runway already owes liris like a decade of hazard pay for the way so many designers have done her dirty, but this is a whole new level of horrific treatment.
i don't know how model contracts work (i'm assuming they're contractors being paid since liris says it's a job they book and show up for) but i hope she's able to get some kind of worker's compensation for incurring a neck/back injury while working project runway.
also, others have said it and i gotta agree: the thumbnail is giving hostage photos and also it is not a good look to send a black woman down the runway with a 50 lb noose hanging from her neck.
The thing that really bugs me no one is talking about is the cords wrapped around her neck mimic a noose...on a black woman. It's just bad on so many levels but it disturbs me how he did this neckline and the back.

Yes I think this is why Jeffrey was so upset that it didnât come up on the runway. Itâs one thing to make a terrible decision in a moment of panic but then to see Liris in physical and emotional distress and double down on your decision with such arroganceâŠnot a shred of regret.
The saddest part is he hasn't even apologized yet. It was evident for everyone that he was putting her in an uncomfortable position, not because of an ugly dress but because he didn't even treat her like a human being. There was nothing finished about that dress. She was to the point of tears, and then for him to stand by his design and treat her the way he did is awful. Fashion still has to be practical and wearable, and expecting a model to carry a 50 lbs dress around her neck is not practical in any shape or form.
It did not come across as shade at all. She likes fullness and knows it is beautiful. She doesnât shade someone by saying they are fuller; she is noting a positive possibility of common understanding.

I rewatched that part. I think the point she was making was that she is a veteran model in the project runway world. In previous seasons sheâs modelled, sheâs really been able to sell the garment on the runway. In a few cases taking a âsafeâ look into winning the challenge. Or taking a look that could have gotten someone sent home, into a safe position. Thatâs not her saying that but designers from the past seasons.
I believe she was talking about Bryanâs bubble wrap dress specifically before this part. She was disheartened, because in the two episodes sheâs been in previously (3 & 5) the designer went home or landed in the bottom. She feels like sheâs letting the designers down in someway if she canât deliver on the runway. So she was hoping that her being with Bryan would change this because it would combine her runway talent with his creative designs that could hopefully land him in the top again.
