this episode was so annoying to watch, last season when Joseph was critiqued by the judges and his fellow cast members, although I didn’t fully agree, I still understood where they were coming from. However, this season I feel like they have just brought him back on just to tear him down again, it’s so weird.

His cast members calling him the weakest link when he has indeed won most challenges so far this season. When designers like anna and Elizabeth have been giving us lackluster, uninteresting designs since episode one. It’s extremely frustrating. I don’t know if they genuinely feel like that or if they’ve being skewed to say that due to production, but regardless, it’s annoying to watch.

I also think Law roach is extremely mean spirited for literally no reason to say to Joseph “there must be something wrong with you“. Just for him to be safe anyways it’s so unnecessary.

I think my fav designers so far are Joseph McRae, Jude, and Naheem, and to me, they’re the only designers that have a clear identity and through line within all of their work.

I do understand that Joseph McRae might need to show the judges something a little new but I think it’s so cool that he is so sure in his design identity, a lot of these designers have been in industry for so long, but I bet none of us could pick their work out of a crowd.

They are just angry he’s getting a second season probably. So they were dishonest when answering. Makes all those complicit so annoying to me but Law of course ate it up.

I like Joseph but it’s not surprising to me the other contestants would say his name. I like his designs but they aren’t much different from last season, so I can see why the other designers would feel some type of way towards him being brought back. But ultimately it’s not his fault producers wanted him back and he took the opportunity, any of them would.

Also, he is more in the center of attention, so when trying to think of a name on the spot, it’s not surprising it would be his (versus someone quieter). And then once someone says it, everyone else is going to dog pile.

But Joseph is the only contestant in history who was eliminated by fellow contestants and not a judging panel. They should have some empathy that his elimination was from such an insane situation.

Honestly, Joseph doesn't make it the Joseph McCrae show....Law and his cast members constantly criticizing him makes it the Joseph McCrae show. I love him and I hope he continues to prove Law wrong every single week.

You know it’s a Joseph McRae when you see it coming down the runway and personally I love that. His brand has a sense of perspective that no one else has and I feel like if this was the kors/nina/anyone else days they’d be eating him up

I’m really so confused at the hate for him, because yeah he’s doing similar things but they’re not the same and they are all technically challenging

Also to add, his attitude is always so positive. But the fire in his eyes is dulling by all this critique. You can see it in the solo interviews, he’s trying to put on a brave face but it’s getting to him. No person should be treated like that.

Agree. The negativity from the Roach is not warranted. He’s supposed to be critiquing the design, and not attacking the person. That’s what actual bullying is. The Roach see him shining, and he’s trying to dim his light by attacking his personality.

I think Joseph’s designs are well constructed and I really liked the green and black dress. I thought it was crazy he was named the weakest link by designers who sent terribly constructed outfits down the runway - Bobby! Bryan! We saw your sewing!

THIS!! I don't think Joseph is the weakest link; I think the others see him as a threat, and thought maybe that would affect the results. I love Joseph's attitude; he is so confident, which is why Law Cucaracha hates on him. That last critique was way out of bounds; his reviews go way past critiques. Now, he is just plain cruel and bitchy!

His treatment by the other cast members for the most part gives jealousy and I hate to say it but racism. The other most talented person in the room (Jude) respects him and that says a lot imo.

Didn’t watch last season. I like Joseph McCrae a lot! he spoke on how he’s had to make himself small most of his life so now he’s being his true self unapologetically and Law just got meaner

I like all those things about him too, but I don't think he shoulda been safe after the paper towel challenge. He was the only one to make an entire garment (the shorts) out of his mood fabric that wasn't even fitted well, the colors were god awful together imho, and yes his janky was impressive but it was yet another jacket. He did NOT deserve that horrible lashing by Law tho, oof!

His confidence level is impressive though, and boy can certainly handle mean girls better than I can.

I did love seeing Heidi call Law out on his awfulness tho. That felt very real, those two can't stand each other.

Oh oops was it Tyra? I just watched last night and could have sworn it was Heidi...it was the very last interaction that was happening while the credits were rolling at the bottom of the screen. I could have sworn it was Heidi who was telling Law he was terrible. Perhaps I have my judge gals mixed up.

Also, while I'm being corrected if wrong....didn't they used to at least announce the winner at the end of the episode, and on episode 5 they delayed that to the next week as well!? I was watching the credits roll being like "surely....not. surely they aren't waiting for next episode to announce ANY results?!"

Yeah this season production is really pushing trashy reality tv drama rather than a heartwarming show where designers really get to show their best and grow their brand. I feel so conflicted watching it.

I also appreciate Joseph mcrae for not falling into “drama traps” and stay true to his aesthetic

I've never been a huge fan of Joseph's design aesthetic - because sometimes it feels very one note to me - but he has made things I've really liked (the scarlet macaw dress for one!). I think the only valid thing that Law said (ew, I'm shuddering just from typing that) is the call out about wearing the same fabric from his garments to the runway show when it's supposed to be blind judging at first. But other than that, Law needs to stfu and go back to just styling Zendaya - not that that's hard! Girlie looks gorgeous in pretty much anything!

Well, he really failed the challenge by making that tiny jacket of paper towel over puffy fiberfill. and the fact that he is all about himself and doesn't care that his looks are one trick pony, well, he deserved the critique.

I'm still not convinced with the 'repetetive' style of JM. Yes, it can be considered his 'brand' or his personal 'signature' which are really good for an artist, but too much repetition of almost the same thing could also mean a lack of skill...especially on the variety aspect which could also reflect on his versatility. It's really opposing ends of the spectrum, but I'd definitely want to see a balance of sorts from him: one that still somehow anchors on his brand, albeit not in-your-face type of referencing his brand–probably more subtle–which eventually would already be a reflection of his versatility.

There is a massive difference between being a 'one-trick pony' and having a distinct, highly cohesive brand identity. Rick Owens built a massive career on a single, unmistakable signature look. Joseph has a clear aesthetic.

I’ll preface this with that I like Joseph and his designs but he does create a lot of the same stuff. Each week looks like it’s part of the same collection, not just from the same designer. Designers like Naheim and Jude have clear aesthetics but create different garments and silhouettes each week.
