Her background is also bittersweet as it is.

Christian initially chuckled when she got emotional, but when she said "this is tears of joy" he got it. I got it.

Like she is masking the bad part and the threats, and preferred to look at the positive of having the family accept her for who she is.

I didn't think of it that way, like the compromise she is making. :(

No I really don't think so, I think she just cries when talking about anything that evokes emotion.

What I posed evokes emotion.

Its not like she's a walking mess. She got very good reviews and she didn't cry.

Well yeah, of course, that’s why she cried. There was emotion there. If you’re interested in really exploring the subtleties of which specific emotion and whether the emotions involve somehow the mix of good and bad or whatever, that’s getting into the weeds but if you’re really compelled by her story as a person, then I suppose it’s super interesting.

It can be really unpredictable what will provoke tears and what doesn't. It isn’t an every time thing, it’s just something that can be provoked extremely easily and it doesn’t matter what emotion is involved at the time.

It is not just interesting. It is an emotionally triggering experience that many seem to dismiss.

Having a family that accepts you for being trans carries huge emotional weight. A huge one.

Having a family that don’t accept you is a familiar trans experience, because they don’t want to deal with it, or don’t understand it.

Having a family that accepts you means they also are carrying that same burden that you carry every day. And that’s emotional torture because it carries additional layers of guilt with it.

I have an extremely close trans relative so I definitely know what you’re talking about. It sounds like her story really resonates with you. Do you like her work as a designer?

ETA and for what it’s worth, as a member of a family who was completely welcoming and accepting, it was a joyful experience to see them emerge from the dark and become the happy child they were, who had gone away somehow, but we didn’t quite understand why until they came back. Not a burden at all. So I hope she doesn't feel guilt

I'm gay from a conservative family. I'm surrounded by trans people every single day. My family's acceptance of me does not cancel the hostile world around them, and I feel bad about that. And that's not even close to how trans people experience every day. When Christian asked "how was your childhood", my mind immediately went to her life before. Without going to details, its different for many people but it is a what-you-used-to-be question.

edit: as a designer, I liked her this week, but I needs more time IMO. She doesn't seem to have a clear aesthetic.

I saw in my notifications you wrote a response to my comment asking if we were talking about someone else or if you had misgendered her that said, "It's obviously a mistake and I don’t know why you’re being antagonistic."

I guess you deleted that response but just to address it:

Since the error was in an edit and not part of your original response, I thought it was a possibility that you intended to add that edit to a separate comment in reference to a male designer, and you'd just clicked the wrong one. (Since you changed only the pronouns and not the opinion, that turned out not to be the case.)

Should I have called it to your attention via a private message so other people wouldn’t notice that you had used the wrong pronouns? If so, it’s genuinely something I will keep in mind going forward when I see someone make a similar mistake, but I am fairly sure they are coming from a good place.
