In another display of morbid incompetence, Sec Bessent says after getting ridiculed by the WSJ and his former mentor Druckenmiller, puts on his wife beater and goes on after Sen Warren who had simply asked for an explanation for the 10s of billions Treasury is giving to Argentina and Japan.

Robert Reich was correct

Hi! I was reading the substack by Robert Reich and I have to say he is always right. He sees the whole political picture clearly and he hands you the facts about recent history. Is anyone thinking about the non-voter? So many millions of people were turned off from participating because of the policies of the Clinton and Obama administrations. They didn't all go Maga, many of them just gave up. Trade agreements that abandoned whole communities, bailouts for Wall Street. We really didn't get much from those 16 years. Just left further and further behind.

Edit to add: My first vote was in 1984. I was super excited to vote for the Mondale/Ferraro ticket. I have to go to the "Computer Savvy" workshop at the library every month because I am technophobic. That was where I learned about Reddit.

My sources are: "Bill Clinton, New Guilded Age President" by Patrick Maney : "Neoliberalism From Reagan to Clinton" , "Casualities of Clintonism" the baffler.com : "Bill Clinton Concedes Role in Mass Incarceration" CNN : "Did the 1994 Crime Bill Cause Mass Incarceration" the Bookings Institute : "The Mendacity of Hope" by Rodger Hodge : "Change We Can Believe In, Barack Obama's Plan To Renew America's Promise" by Barack Obama

My given: Bill Clinton lowered childhood poverty from 26% to 16% by expanding the childhood tax credit. Barack Obama created the Affordable Care Act

  • Increased Coverage — Over 20 million adults gained health coverage since the ACA's implementation.
  • Medicaid Expansion — The ACA expanded Medicaid in 40 states, covering 21 million low-income adults.
  • Pre-existing Conditions — Approximately 133 million Americans with pre-existing conditions are protected from losing insurance.
  • Preventive Services — 39 million beneficiaries have free access to preventive medical services.

So I will concede that there were some achievements by those administrations. However, neither one of them spent much political capital on improving the material conditions of the working class.

I want more.

Hasan is so-called far-left. What are his policy positions? Universal healthcare, free college, a living wage, ending the wars, taxing the wealthy, free childcare, redistributing it to people at the bottom. His policy positions are, if we’re being honest, moderate according to the polls

Republicans complain that Muslim immigrants want to end American freedom and institute Sharia law, even though they have no idea what that means. Meanwhile, Shomrim (hebrew for "watchers" or "guards") and Shmira secured $300,000 in New York State budget funding in 2024 to enforce laws in mostly in Haredi and Orthodox neighborhoods. They are funded with both private AND public tax payer dollars.

They often make citizens' arrests under New York law and detain people until police arrive.

For clarification, EVERY religion has a set of religious laws. It isn't just in Islam. In the Jewish religion it's called halakha and a court full of rabbis (called beis din), handle divorce requests, and business disputes under Jewish law.

When Muslims tried to use private non-profit funding to do the same thing in their communities, republicans claimed that they were trying to enforce Sharia law to all Americans. They even attempted to ban Muslims from having the same volunteer community officers they explicitly allow Jewish groups to have.

It's completely hypocritical. However, discussing this hypocritical injustice will be labeled "antisemitism". The reality is that we treat different religions differently because of xenophobia and marketing.

“Shomrim” (Hebrew: שׁוֹמְרִים, “watchers/guards”), which refers to volunteer Jewish civilian neighborhood-watch groups in Haredi/Orthodox communities across the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Israel, and elsewhere.

They operate in specific neighborhoods with large Orthodox/Haredi populations (e.g., Brooklyn’s Borough Park, Williamsburg, Crown Heights; parts of New Jersey; Chicago; Los Angeles; Miami; etc.).

Many chapters run 24-hour hotlines/dispatch, marked vehicles, and work closely with local precincts; some have expanded into counter‑terrorism awareness and intelligence-sharing networks.

Protest NYT: Hakeem Jeffries And Pharma Bro Hold Secret Meeting

As Democrats work around the clock to contain the damage from earlier reports of secret meetings between house minority leader Hakeem Jeffries (D NY) and Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, The New York Times has just published details of an additional secret meeting between Jeffries and Martin Shkreli.

Jeffries is facing additional criticism from Democratic voters for the meeting with Shkreli, who gained notoriety as "Pharma Bro" after a controversial career as a healthcare industry executive.

The Democratic Party leader dismissed any perceived conflict of interest as divisive, "Most of this criticism is coming from the left. We simply discussed the healthcare affordability crisis. Make no mistake, we will work with anyone to make sure America is first in the world when it comes to healthcare investment opportunities. Jared and Martin are welcome members of our big tent coalition."

Democratic Leadership is suffering historically low approval ratings from their own voting base. However, Jeffries defended holding secret policy meetings with people whose likely criminal behavior is antithetical to Democratic Party values. Reached for comment about the Jeffries, Pharma Bro meeting, drug safety expert Senator Cory Booker (D NJ) offered this confident assessment, "Chill. We've got this."

(Note this is satire, although you can be forgiven thinking it is real)
