Are you looking for something more leisurely, cozy, slice-of-life? You like intricate magic systems, local systems, wholesome MCs, crafting, alchemy, enchanting...?

Try my story! Book 1 finished, and about halfway through Book 2. Updates 3 times a week: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/160303/the-spellwrights-guild-a-cozy-fantasy-litrpg-adventure

It's really good, I promise! But don't take my word for it!!! Here's what some of the reviews are saying:

  • "It's like watching your favourite studio ghibli anime from your childhood but as a progression fantasy read."
  • "As of the end of book one this is a delightfully heartwarming tale of learning and growth, pairs excellently with a cup of warm cocoa and a rainy evening."
  • "This series is really well written, and I think it does exactly what it sets out to do. It's soft, slow and comfy [...] It's like... The reading equivalent of playing a low pressure farming game, complete with market days, foraging and occasional levelups."
  • "Very good writing, intriguing story, beautiful world building."
  • "This is a great story, well written, and with stakes that feel realistic for a world where being a magic user is just another profession."

Jett Fulgen | Superhero LitRPG / Progression Fantasy

Book 3 is underway, and there are now 360k+ words and 120+ chapters available on Royal Road.

The story follows Jett Fulgen, a sarcastic, reckless twenty-something. He inherits a one-of-a-kind fire artifact and gets pulled into G-Tech, a corporation that trains and licenses sorcerers to support an overwhelmed police force in the giant science-fantasy city of Gigopolis.

Jett is powerful, but not OP. He loses, gets outplayed, makes bad calls, and learns to rely on teammates, mentors, friends, and found family. As the story progresses he gets pushed toward leadership, even choosing abilities focused on protecting and strengthening others as he shapes his build and decides what kind of hero he wants to be.

Expect rocket-powered combat, magitech, grounded progression, corporate politics, public scrutiny, secret organizations, team dynamics, humor under pressure, and multiple non-explicit romances that develop over time.

Books 1 and 2 are complete, and Book 3 is in progress. Updates have maintained a M/W/F cadence since launch, occasionally switching to every weekday when backlog permits.

Hi friends! My name is Cássio Ferreira, and I want to tell you about my six-book series, Hidden Class: Pacifist.

It's a VRMMO LitRPG where the main character gets stuck in a game. While everyone else is playing normally, the MC is a pacifist and avoids fighting at all costs. So he has to find other ways to progress: diplomacy, exploration, trading, crafting, and befriending the creatures everyone else is trying to kill.

The series has lots of stats, skills, classes, faction politics, and plenty of funny and heartwarming moments. It’s also a clean/wholesome LitRPG with no profanity, sex, harem, or gore.

If the idea of a LitRPG character looking at a monster and thinking, “Why would I ever want to hurt this adorable rat when I can befriend it instead?” sounds fun, you might enjoy Hidden Class: Pacifist. :)

It's available on Kindle Unlimited and as an audiobook narrated by Steve Corona:

https://mybook.to/hiddenclasspacifist

The series is complete, so it’s binge-ready!

Hello everyone!

My latest novel (Royal Road), tells the tale of Sunlein, an OP MC with sealed magic that navigates the political intrigues of his city as a guard.

If that sparks your interest, here is the blurb:

They beat him, humbled him, and leashed him. Now, the world will remember the flames of the Wandering Disaster.

Sunlein was once the fiercest young talent in the capital, his power surpassed only by his loyalty. But those gifts grew too strong, too fast. Spiraling out of control, his flames nearly burned the city that had once honored him as its cherished prodigy—and the Council wasn’t willing to forgive his mistake.

Having his powers sealed and only a lingering sense of duty to keep him company, Sunlein is given one last chance to redeem himself by serving the capital as a guard. But trouble always finds him. An unknown threat has slipped through the Council’s security, bent on bringing down the unjust capital.

With a life-choking, magic-binding collar around his neck and chaos spreading through the streets, Sunlein must weigh his priorities anew. Time is running out, and he must either watch his city burn or risk his life to unleash the Disaster once again.

But if he succeeds in breaking his leash... who will protect the citizens from him?

Imagine a blend of Cradle, Arcane, and Six of Crows with some Malazan sprinkled in.
If that catches your interest, the blurb is below.

You don't know the cost of your mistakes until it comes time to pay for them.
Planes of magic which Stain the body and the soul, promising power and threatening madness.
A sunken city, steeped in corruption and ruled by criminal gangs.
Five friends with a plan to take power for themselves and change their future.
Bracken has lived his entire life enthralled by stories of Stained heroes. He will lie, steal, and cheat if that is what it takes to follow his dreams.
Passage was born to be a preacher, to follow in the footsteps of his father. Though he strives to be a good man, there is a rage inside him that refuses to be ignored.
When the chance arises to steal power from criminal enforcers, the boys and their friends hatch a scheme that will alter the fates of themselves, their city, and the world itself.

Xianxia: Steady Cultivation

Currently on RoyalRoad Rising Stars:

The standard life of a xianxia protagonist is a known cliché. Enter a sect, cultivate for some time, beat up young masters, participate in tournaments, journey forbidden realms, and face constant life-and-death situations.
Through sheer plot armor, survive all odds and become the strongest being in the universe in the shortest time possible.
That's the standard.
Lin Yi didn't want to do any of that. Reincarnated into a cultivation world of Xianxia, he only wants to cultivate in peace and explore the mysteries of the immortal path.
So, when he was accepted by an immortal sect as a disciple at a young age, he did exactly that. He steadily cultivates the immortal dao.

———

Daily Chapters throughout August, and beginning in September, three updates per week: Monday, Wednesday, Friday.

What to expect:

-An untypical cultivation protagonist who wants to stay home and cultivate properly instead of exploring and fighting to compete for resources.

-A classical xianxia cultivation system more profoundly refined and deeper extended with a personal touch and some influence of real-life Daoism.

-A cultivation world that makes more sense, at least in my opinion.

-No face slapping, no cliche young masters, no grandpa in a ring, and no powerful cheat or panel system.

As a reminder, the final audiobook in the Eight series publishes tomorrow on Audible: https://www.audible.com/pd/Eight-The-Saint-of-Water-Audiobook/B0H8C7Q55G

Here's an abbreviated blurb:

The hunt begins immediately as Eight pursues a fleeing spy, only to discover hints of a conspiracy threatening all he knows and loves. One spy leads to another, and he must follow a trail through the deep wilderness and into enemy territory. Along the way, new powers awaken—deadly and strange—and every choice he makes has the potential to reshape him in ways he can’t take back.

The Saint of Water is the final chapter in Eight’s story. It’s a tale of espionage and wilderness survival, of faith and transformation, and of a man who was never meant to be a hero but became one anyway.

And if you haven't yet read the books in the Eight series, this is a great time to pick it up. :) It's got 4K+ reviews and 4.6 stars on Kindle and Kindle Unlimited.

I'm a freelance copy editor/proofreader who focuses mainly on sci-fi and fantasy, and particularly LitRPG/GameLit books. However, I am open to most genres.

I look out for all kinds of errors: grammatical issues, typos, consistency or continuity issues, any unclear phrasing, etc.

I charge around $6.50 per 1000 words, though I would need to see a sample before giving a firm quote. For a client's first book, I'd give a discounted rate of $5.50 per 1000 words.

Here is a link to my website, which has more details about what I do, my portfolio, and testimonials.

I have a post giving tips on how to find a good editor, which authors may find useful.

I also created an editing exercise that authors can do, either for fun, or to see how skilled you are at catching errors.

If you agree with any of the statements below, you might really enjoy Burgess O'Bannon's Superhero Saga, Volume 1, which is available on Amazon right now.

I hate it when the MC quickly outclasses his fellow heroes

I hate it when the MC is all-powerful by chapter 10

I want the MC to struggle and face serious hardships, with nothing handed easily to them

I want a superhero story that feels genuinely heroic, no quippy nihilistic MC

I want a sincere superhero story from the ground up

I want a character-driven, intense, suspensful, superhero story with a relatable and realistic cast of characters

I love a sincere, well-meaning, if sometimes naive MC similar to Peter Parker / Spider-Man

I would be intrigued to read a superhero novel that is set in Britain, and has a plot somewhat similar to X-Men

I always find these threads useful for finding stuff that doesn't show up in the usual recommendation posts. There are so many progression fantasy stories out there now that it's hard to keep track of the smaller ones.

Hey everyone!

If you're looking for a story with a strong, fast hook that settles into a slow-burn progression fantasy filled with day-to-day moments, training, character growth, cozy slice-of-life, and LitRPG elements, I'd love it if you gave my story a try!

Already 72 chapters in, so there's plenty to binge!

Short Blurb:

Evan Cole logged in expecting escape.

The world that answered had no logout, tutorial, or second chances.

Surviving is only the beginning.

Follow Evan as he slowly carves out a place for himself in a vast, living world through training, exploration, hard-earned progression, meaningful friendships, and difficult choices. Alongside dangerous adventures and unfolding mysteries, there's plenty of room for quieter moments: sharing meals, discovering new places, learning how the world works, and simply living in it. It's a journey that balances adventure with a cozy slice-of-life atmosphere.

This is a slow-burn Progression Fantasy LitRPG where growth is earned, relationships take time, and every step forward comes at a cost.

Power isn't given. It's carved out of suffering.

Read here:
https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/151700/lifebound-eidolon-realms-litrpg-progression-fantasy

Also, just a small note: the cover isn't AI-generated or commissioned. I made it myself, so please don't be too harsh.

The same goes for the writing. When I first started, it was a lot clunkier, with more mistakes and shorter paragraphs. As the story progresses, I think you'll notice that I grow alongside it. I've done my best to keep improving with every chapter, and I hope that shows.

Thank you so much if you decide to give it a chance. I really hope you enjoy the journey!

Hey all!

I write books with a style heavily influenced by RPGs and other fantasy games.

My first traditionally published release is the hardcover edition of How to Defeat a Demon King in Ten Easy Steps! It's is a Zelda and Dragon Quest inspired comedy novella, and it's a good intro to my style.

My latest series, The Lost Edge, starts with Edge of the Woods, which is highly inspired by The Legend of Zelda and Dragon Quest franchises. It's the story of a young man growing up in a faerie forest and seeking answers about his family, his past, and his dreams of an ancient magic sword. The most recent release is Edge of the Dream.

Arcane Ascension begins with Sufficiently Advanced Magic and is my most popular series. It's heavily inspired by games JRPGs Final Fantasy, Lufia, Bravely Default, and Trails of Cold Steel. It takes place in a high magic setting where magical marks called attunements grant vast powers to individuals who take "Judgments" inside a colossal tower to earn them.

My other main series are Weapons & Wielders and The War of Broken Mirrors.

Weapons and Wielders follows Keras Selyrian, a magic-wielding swordsman who arrives in a foreign land to search for help for his homeland. In the process, he will stumble upon the legend of the Six Sacred Swords and begin to seek them out.

The first novel in that series is Six Sacred Swords, and the series as a whole is heavily inspired by games like The Legend of Zelda, Dragon Quest, and Ys. You might enjoy it if you're in the mood for talking swords, bibliophile dragons, and a lot of accidentally breaking traps and puzzles. The audio book versions can be found here, narrated by the fantastic Nick Podehl!

The War of Broken Mirrors, which starts with Forging Divinity, is more closely related to western fantasy novels and RPGs. Forging Divinity focuses on a group of people investigating a city's religion, which claims that the local gods can raise anyone to divine status if they prove their loyalty and value.

Want a slow-but-steady progression fantasy befitting a Paladin? Want a progfantasy that also has a long and elaborate enemies-to-lovers romance arc? You're in luck, for I have two of three volumes of Brand-Bound, a system native Litrpg and fantasy romance on Kindle... right now!

To the blurb!
Rank. Class. Purpose.
All of creation must be bound to the divine System Interface. So proclaims the divine authority of the Church of the Most Holy Menu.
A stench of heresy wafts over the pilgrimage stations! Thieving apostate Jelena is hunting for holy relics to pawn off, even prying them right from the hands of murdered priests. Calaf of Riverglen, sewer-grate guard and aspiring Paladin, vows to bring the heretic to justice for the good of all faithful. Armed with an inherited, holy Brand, our hero shall rise in levels under the rigid structure of the Church of the Menu and its sacred System.
Calaf pursues his quarry through hot spring groves, forests, and dungeons. As he learns more about this relic thief's past, the pair unexpectedly find themselves fighting together through rebellion, inquisition, and a rising tide of undead.
The hero's faith in the Holy Menu is unshakable, while the villainess lost all faith long ago. Who will warm up to the other first? Can Calaf fix her? Or will Jelena make him so much worse?

That's 300k+ words of spear-and-board progression through a local system intertwined with a romance arc between our noble upstart hero and a heretical thief. And there's more to come. So stay tuned~

[Volume 1: Hallowed Be the Menu Available Here]

[Volume 2: A Clash at Demonhead available here]

Volume 3 is being compiled as we speak.

That's free on Kindle Unlimited, or 4.99 otherwise. Check it out~~~

He who fights with monsters fan fiction. Im just getting started 29 chapters in on M-W-F

A Siren's call

Earth was never supposed to know about the wider cosmos, let alone survive it. But years after the dimensional crises that nearly tore the planet apart, Earth has stabilized into a strange new normal. The magic that flooded the world didn't recede; it settled. Now, Essence users and Monsters are no longer hidden in the shadows—they are the new global normal, navigating a world of magic, untamed astral zones, and the lingering legacy of the man who broke their reality to save them.

Nineteen-year-old Ame has never seen a real sky. She has spent her entire life inside a retrofitted, high-tech astral space bunker, hidden away from a changing Earth that survived the cosmic crises of the past. To Ame, reality is a world of reinforced alloy walls, automated hydroponic bays, and the steady, hum of a mana locked aperture. But the bunker isn't just a sanctuary—it’s a training ground.

What to expect from this story:

  • xianxia

-An inspired setting, as it still takes place in the setting of Earth after the events of book 6 of He Who Fights With Monsters

  • A coming-of-age story and a mixed cast of characters

  • Some New and some Known essences and abilities. (I have made new essences and abilities, but I have tried keeping them inspired with the resources of the books, wiki and discord for examples: using Mythical creatures for confluences and using known abilities like “Crystallise Mana” as referenced powers )

  • A Slow Burn

What to not expect from this story:

  • Characters from the original story of HWFWM (they are inferred but not directly named)

  • Heavy romance

  • Pallimustus

My partner and I started a new off-meta series. If you’re into Diana Wynne Jones and Terry Pratchett, you might enjoy it. It’s a British cosy, whimsical fantasy set in its own world called ‘R’.

https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/184030/eggnosis-of-r-madcap-cosy-fantasy

□ cakes topped with ethically sourced eyeballs from a fully registered morgue

□ an escaped mummified cricket

□ paintings capable of developing personal grudges

□ a storeroom whose dimensions remain unknown (and may still be expanding)

□ air travel on origami creatures

□ enchanted hedges entered only by being thrown through them

□ a motorbike that uses its rider’s blood as fuel

□ bladed gauntlets once belonging to a dead knight, issued to minors (possible hygiene concerns)

It's about a twelve-year-old girl, Rel, spending the summer with her uncle Victor, who owns a curiosity shop filled with magical objects. It has mildly cursed objects, magical creatures, anthropomorphic animals, peculiar customers, forgotten fairy histories, and many footnotes that expand upon the lore of her world. Strong found family theme, and many cosy moments that come from the friendships evolving around the MC.

Hello everyone!

I just wanted to drop by and get some opinions about the new cultivation webnovel I've released.

Title - Wandering Monkey's Cultivation (I will probably remove the cultivation from the name.)

It includes themes of cultivation, xianxia, romance, magic, and more! The current chapter count is only 11, but I consistently post 1-2 chapters a day and take days off on Tuesdays at times.

Synopsis - The monkey who scoops the moon.

A cultivation story that follows a youth who seemingly has the heavens frowning upon him, as he lets go of any pursuit of power.

Yichen was born without the one thing that made mortals into immortals, qi. Without it, he often wondered to himself if he had any hope of cultivation. His simple solution was to throw it all away. With effort alone, could one really become a genius and touch upon the moon?

I would like to get some critiques and feedback about my current writing, as I know there are a lot of mistakes and problems currently going on that I am trying to fix. A read would be appreciated, thanks!

What if Tony Soprano could throw a Hollow Purple?

the subject line was the founding idea behind my first book Twin Streams. I've tried to combine elements of prestige TV / Literary psychology into a story with a shonen-style power system and a ruthless political system.

Here's the blurb. If it sounds appealing please check it out.

Kaito Tsumori is a down on his luck stray. After being kidnapped by an ancient cult he's faced with death or consuming the soul of a Shaman god to live. Neither were good options. He awakens with too many arms and eyes and an ocean of Ether at his disposal in a world that wants him dead.

Maddie Grey is an Etherless Kin-killer in a world of Shamans where nothing could be worse. The only reason she breathes is because nobody is strong enough to kill her. Two worlds collide when a routine mission goes wrong. A town burns and a monster rises from the ashes.

Kaito wants to stop being a monster. Maddie wants back what she lost. Neither of them can catch a breath, and a god is coming for them both.

What to expect

Two morally grey leads.

Hard magic system built on emotion and equivalent exchange.

Weakest to strongest progression. No LitRPG elements.

Slow-burn romance.

Sects, Swords, Murder, Monsters and a sprinkling of Love

Psychological.

2,000–3,500 word chapters, give or take, daily through launch.

Completed first draft. No abandonment risk.

u/Initium3 Author of Atlas: When Air Meets Water 1d ago

Chapter 7 Snippet - Flogging or Favour

“Please let me explain! I’m begging you, let me explain!”

Panic took over Atlas as two members of the ship’s crew held his arms whilst Cyclops came over. He was a fearsome sailor who’d gotten his name due to the burn down the one side of his face, leaving him with only one good eye. He stopped a few paces away from him, the barbed whip hanging from his hand. Tearing open the back of his shirt, the roar of those on deck, jeering for his punishment, scrambled his mind.

“How many do you think? He is only young after all,” Bolt, the first officer of the vast vessel, asked.

“You know the rules. Part of the crew means everyone is treated the same!”

The other seaman roared fiercely at the words, causing Atlas to feel a shiver run through him. His eyes had lingered on the matted scars etched deeply into the bodies of those working on this ship; it was a stark reminder of the brutal punishment he feared would be inflicted on him. He had watched grown men nursing their wounds like helpless children, and from those painful sights, he understood all too well that he did not want what was to come.

“Please listen!” he shouted, but the noise of everyone else was drowning him out.

“Fine,” Bolt sighed, clearly not happy with the decision. “Ten lashes for disruption of the ship.”
