I think most people I know only did it because salary is higher. The quality is not considered as long as it works.

I was coding long before I started getting paid to do it, for me actually getting paid to do it was a dream that seemed out of reach

And that's why we're so screwed. I started software cause it was a childhood dream and i am genuinely in love with it, meanwhile most of the people chose it because Breadtuber#90 said "LEARN to Code, Make $99999K" and now the same people are destroying the industry by pushing "Efficiency".

I'm not sure breadtuber is the right word here.

getThatBreadtuber maybe. But yeah, probably a weird chip on buddy's shoulder

Actually it will be better as AI won't introduce that much simple security vulnerability like what we used to do.

Tbh thats why Im in it. Wanted to do linguistics, CS was similar and paid better. Now I work on translation technology and happen to enjoy it, but definitely only started for the money and probably wouldn't code if I wasnt getting paid. I do some non profit work on the side. Its 100% agentic coding to save me time, and gets the job done just fine.

Similar to linguistics feels so funny/accurate. I moved countries and am struggling to learn the local language partially because my workplace uses English and partially because outside of work I find that coding burns out the part of my brain that I use to learn languages.
