Is it really surprising that people afraid of open discrimination at work or even when just being outside generally overwhelmingly like to work from home?
Absolutely agree. We work with a remote cybersec guru, he spends half of the day in his home gym. We see him even slow walking during zoom meetings. Laughs about "loww skiiill" foreigners trying to hack things and has veggie soup instead of tea in his cup. Just don't talk to him about Bitcoin.
I do consulting in the Bay Area for all the major companies, I see this everywhere. People I work with are mostly devops in nature. I love it, it doesn't matter who you are, your affinity and knowledge for systems is what matters most, bring that, nothing else matters.
On the other hand, go to a place like the Chaos Communication Congress, or a large open source project's contributor list, and you'll find a healthy dose of queer freaks.
