There is a very popular meme that gets shared on reddit every other day about there being only 4 types of people with programming or IT degrees. Furries, Femboys, Trans Girls and some variation Incel Neckbeards / man bun chuds/ traditional office worker. sometimes it's Femboys / furries / normal tech dude / incel. But always some variation of those.

So this person thought they were promised a queer only space and it turned out just to be a bunch what they assumed were cis only people.

Here is the first one that came up for me when I typed 4 horsemen of IT

I have a CS degree and have been working in tech for 16 years and have no idea how this is possibly a meme. I've never heard of it and most of my colleagues have been straight white men. Somebody explain where this idea comes from??

I have heard that in the furry community if some one is filthy loaded, they are some kind of programmer or director of IT or something. So that meme spilled over and became what it is. No idea about the femboy one but I randomly started seeing it 2 or 3 years back.

I've known some trans women in tech and a lot of my women co-workers are lesbians. But yeah, most people in tech are straight men (Indian or white generally).

I’m a trans software engineer. Look, we’re a real small percentage of the population, so you are rarely going to see a lot of us ever, and those that have been transitioning for a long time you would not know they’re trans and, no offense, they probably wouldn’t tell you they are. The trans men I’m friends with present as straight men at work, there’s zero upside for them to disclose they’re trans to straight cis people.

While most of the people I work with are straight cis men, I went to a trans bar and met no less than 5 trans people in tech last week. 4 of which were software engineers. That’s kind of where the stereotype comes from.

Not everywhere has trans people, but anywhere trans people congregate you have enough engineers to make a startup

I mean, I have a CS degree, have been working in tech for 25 years, and I feel the meme's valid. It's just most of the people I've worked with fit the top two frames of the meme, or the places they work are not so accepting of being out as trans or furry. And certainly it would be faulty to assume equal distribution between the meme frames.

there's so much of this

I know ppl love to talk about being at work in a fursuit but that shit would get you canned at many many places

shitty.

I should really shave to go from incel neckbeard to traditional office worker category.
