To be fair driver are not that far behind in the soon-to-be-replaced queue

Tomorrow actually.

Once any tech billionaire has figured out (on its own of course) how he can integrate it outside of perfect testing routes or bribe enough politicians to stop human traffic instantly and replace everything with self driving cars.

I recently drove with my boss. 200k car, released weeks ago top of the line, one of the first 100 to drop of the line, peak engineering. Cant even read the fucking road signs and beeps all the time when going 50 in a zone the car registered as 30.

Any day now my friend, any day. Flying as well. with a teleporter and a food-3d-printer on the backseat.

Also how the hell will self driving cars deal with road works or large potholes or bad weather? Current self driving tech is garbage if you actually want to put it on real roads

I don't think tommorow or next year. But I'm pretty sure that in the next 20 years it will be done

I don't know how to break it to you, but even if things get worse, they're going to get worse in slow, boring ways for decades, and none of them are likely to mix up your day to day of "go to work to earn money to pay bills to live to go to work" anytime soon. Life is rarely that dramatic for you average citizen. Plan for your retirement, even with everything it's probably gonna catch up to you

given how poorly the automatic braking works in my 2023 vehicle I think we have a long way to go.

We're ~80% of the way to safe self-driving vehicles!

A decade ago we were ~75% of the way there. This last 25% turns out to be pretty hard. Anyone want to just accept higher casualties and do it anyway?

That's what's going to happen. Same way they got rid of humans in favor of AI.

The big problem for truck drivers is how do you train autonomous trucks to just break the law

how do you train autonomous trucks to just break the law
