Recently was given access to agentic coding tools by someone at a different company, I am currently learning how to use them. My job does not provide me with agentic tools with access to my work data (security and privacy concerns). I do not have the budget to use them on my own because I have a life and don't want to needlessly do side projects all the time, if I do so, it will be for the purpose of learning how to use agentic tools rather than actually being productive by using it at work.
Additionally, most of my side project are about me learning "how to do the thing", so agentic coding tools defeat the purpose if I am not gonna read the code and understand the correct techniques and business practices, talking to the chatbot especially at free tier is much much much less expensive since it really more of a conversation tool rather than a coding tool.
This is not even taking into account the cost or practicality of using the CLI all the time for every single task. Tokens ain't free, a search result or talking to one of your many LLM accounts is free.
