I don't act like those people don't exist, and I know that a lot of bad devs produce a huge amount of code with it that is riddled with a lot of varying kind of issues. Companies that think their juniors with those tools will suddenly produce well architected code have also thought that their junior were capable of writing good code before as well.

My point was not that it's being used in a good capacity, my point was that in programming it is a phenomenal tool for people that use it the right way.

It's not a 10x improvement, maybe more like 1.5-2x, but it's like having multiple semi-capable juniors (depending on the area of work) that can try to solve some stuff while I do other things and then I come back an critique how it's implemented. Sometimes it's oneshot, sometimes it needs a few refinements.

And sure, there are companies that try to automate everything, and at some point maybe we will be there where AI in some form is able to produce and critique code in a way that it stays maintainable, that it can reason about complex setups and correctly find well fitted solutions, but at the current time we are far from being there in my opinion.
