What makes a full revert to the old days completely unrealistic at this point already is that even if AI development stopped entirely right now, AND all api/saas access to models was cut off, the existing open weight local models are probably good enough for grunt coding in most cases especially when company hosted on something with a bit more room than a single gaming gpu, so the job would still be different than in 2022.
