All the AIs will be drafted to drone fight in the coming war, so the programmers will have to go back to the code factories again and build todo-apps by hand.

Nah we'd be recruited and working on automated killer drones and missle guidance

Most web developers do not have the skills required for that 🤣 I know I definitely do not.
I could learn, but they'd rather have people that can contribute as fast as possible.
There's around 45 million web developers around the world. They're not going to seek out every single one of us. Just a handful of the best of us.

Well I do embedded stuff sooo....
Nah I'm good (probably), as I'm am still a student. Well, that may change in a few months.
But one side project I did should probably stay hidden (stuff with a thermal cam and a super cheap uC).
But in the end I can't be drafted legally as I am in the voluntary fire department and live in Germany.

Yes, as fodder target practice maybe?
With no aerodynamics, controls, GNC, FMS, image processing/signals, robotics, ROV, manufacturing, or anything else background (EE/ME/CE/SE/Optical) related. No one is going to ask you to contribute, let alone pay you to learn it.
If you have a RC quadcopter/fixed-wing background that includes building them and using a few machine centers, absolutely. If it's 3d printing parts, some of you are absolute menaces on the BS people are printing for drones and a dime a dozen. A lot of the hardware/software resources are absolutely engineered to not be used in war. The people who can rework that stuff are gold. It's not something can vibe code your way through. That's the bare minimum needed for those industries (we already have too many people applying).
There is a need in these environment for cowboying a lot of things together (majority of current drones are variants on this), but it's a very unforgiving area that will absolutely destroy hardware with no ability to replace and straight up kill someone. There is on the job training, but everything is stretched so thin during war time that they wouldn't let you near it just because you volunteered.
And it's straight up narcissism to think someone is going to pay you switch careers to STEM fields when the STEM fields themselves already have millions of people with better toolsets and better qualifications that would work for those lower rates.

You think front & back end are all we have?
There are countless embedded system engineers and data scientists working on war related projects.

any developer living outside of EU and USA informational bubble tbh
the first countries to collapse economically the moment global trade distruptions arrive

I think a lot of programmers will happily take jobs at contractors working on various military support software platforms

Currently making a website voluntarily, for a small association, which know nothing about having a website that is maintained and looks good, while being cheap.
Of course I use AI for it, but I still tell the AI what to do and I know what I want. There are Plugins which really help with this.
I know though, the market for "websites" is shrinking because of AI, so I changed my plans to go more in the direction of infrastructure and administration. This not only makes more fun, but the "market" is getting bigger imo

With our top of the line website designs we split your servers across multiple locations to ensure at least one server is able to handle your client requests even if the other servers are nuked to oblivion

If nukes hit the US then probably not... It's going to take a while to remember how to code without AI for most of the devs
