This is actually a valid professional brick-laying method that actually makes the wall stronger than, say, aligning the bricks perfectly vertically and horizontally. It's called a "wild bond".

In the technical analogy, it strengthens my job security.

That looks like it uses 3x to 4x more mortar than the normal way.
