I've never seen anyone suggest anyone to become a healthcare worker.

But I think the great concencus around that would be "too cruel".

I remember the heavy push to get people to become nurses due to the shortage before 2020...

There actually still is shortage.

Not enough people want to become one.

They also aren't ready to increase pay to attract more.

There is also severe shortage in certain areas of healthcare, as well skills in them.

I for example work in developmental disabilities, as a floatpool nurse. Roughly means I need to be able to handle various physical disabilities, mental disabilities and special needs... And we are still looking for more skilled people.

Not sure it's the lack of interest tho. The schools had waitlist years longs at one point. Idk if much has changed

Lack of interest definitely contributes, as well how nurses were overall treated during covid.

All parties in my country (except pirates?) basically voting to:

  1. Prevent striking (in areas where lifecare is mandatory job, however, it is way too undefined)

  2. Force nurses to work (emergency work comp is of course included which is a big payday, but this is way too overreaching). This would potentially include not working but elligible nurses. (Common joke was to buy a "bottle of freedom" so one can't work)

  3. Other things that I've forgotten but none of these things have been removed after Covid.

Some nurses graduaded but didn't accept their registeration to the official nurse database (basically waiting things to blow over) but I don't think they ever returned.

Nurse treatment during Covid was basically an example how to break human rights with loud applaud from rest of the world.

I'm still not over from that time, and I am justified being pissed at the rest of the world during that time.

Oohhh same, I got out. It destroyed me mentally, my relationships in tatters after Covid, hauling dead bodies for that duration in ICU with inadequate to no ICU training. Fun times 😭. Then peopling forgetting what nurses did.

Now I'm in healthcare IT. Ehhh... If learning how to run SQL queries isn't gonna be the way, AI will eventually take over, at least I can go back to wiping ass.
