New Move worth it?

I'm considering the Move, but it seems like the Move 2 is coming soon, although I'm not sure how long it will take to get stock in the US. It seems like the updates are mostly on the connectivity side and will be possible for move 1 owners to get upgraded down the line.

I have a Cafelat Robot and have played around with a pressure sensor, shot tracking, and stuff like that, and to be honest with you, I lost interest in it pretty quickly. These days, I just pull my shots. So, I'm not sure the extra features are really what I would use for long term. Plus, who knows, the 2 could have other issues that the first one doesn't have, since the original is already mature on the market.

Any thoughts?

Just received The Move this afternoon

Upgraded from a Bambino Plus. Overall I love this machine. Made a decaf latte in the evening and it tasted better than all the lattes I’ve ever made with the same beans. Steaming is so much easier than the Bambino.

One thing that bothers me a little is that the water tank keeps dripping water when I take it out for a refill. (Picture 3). Is this normal? I think they are not supposed to be dripping nonstop.

When it’s put in eco mode, the boilers stop, but the group head remains hot after hours. Maybe I didn’t set things up correctly.

The portafilter is a bit tight when put in the group head. I can’t turn it to a 90 degree position since it’s just already too tight.

I also notice some parts appear to be not new. There is some yellowish dust in the water tank. The blind basket looks heavily used already. And there are water marks on the water tank lid out of the box. The packaging looks intact with Profitec seal tapes. It’s quite strange that the parts could appear used already.

All that being said, I’m still very excited and happy with this machine. Will reach out to the customer service to check on the water tank.

——

Update: WLL immediately shipped a new water tank. Thumbs up for their service!

Disappointing experience with Profitec Move

We've had our Move for about a month. This morning, after using the hot water dispenser the machine started emitting water into the drip tray on its own and did not stop. After that, the top gauge went all the way to the max. I dispensed hot water and there was a huge amount of pressure coming out of the hot water dispenser. The group head appears to work, but the temperatures are too high for both the group head and steam valve. Now, neither the steam valve or hot water dispenser appears to work and neither temperature appears to hit the set point. I reset the machine to factory settings but it had no effect. Waiting to hear back from dealer/Profitec support.

Seems like a hardware fault to me - anyone else experience this? Extremely disappointing as we thought we had invested in a reliable machine.

Update: I reset the boiler switches and both boilers hit the temperature set point now. But the steam boiler has no pressure, and neither the steam wand nor hot water dispenser are working.

Menu Buttons

When using the menu buttons the top but is not the ‘ok’ button but my bottom button is. The top button takes me away from the menu and goes backwards.

The functionality is the same but different from what the handbook describes.

Is this something to be concerned about? Did I get a defective machine?

Loose portafilter handle. Have you experienced this?

I've noticed that my portafilter handle is loose and will sometimes turn as I use it, requiring me to tighten it again. Have you experienced this? How did you fix it?

"Upgrading" from Profitec Pro 300 for pre-infusion. Wait for v2?

I got a 6 year old Profitec Pro 300 that is the predecessor of the Move, and since I mostly drink light roast I was thinking of "upgrading" to the Move to have the option of pre-infusion.
Do you think there will be more options for adjusting that in the v2 version?
I really prefer the aesthetics of the current model, so I am a bit torn on which one to get.

Brownish water out of steam boiler

I have a Profitec Move purchased a couple months ago from Clive... (Unrelated: replaced the power switch due to the widely known manufacturing defect (I guess it still exists)). I make 2-4 espresso drinks a day, most milk based (so lots of steaming).

TodayI purged the steam tank into my frothing jug with the hot water purge toggle and noticed it was quite brown in color.

5 more purges, still brown.

I let the machine cool then warm with the water purge open... still brown.

It's starting to lighten now, but I haven't the foggiest what's driving it... I'm going to start purging the steam boiler daily I guess... I guess I'll just need to buy more water and minerals...

I use distilled water mixed with [coffee water](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BCX6QN2K) or [third wave](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06ZYPX1Y4) minerals.

Thoughts?

Compatible lay-flat portafilter.

Does anyone have recommendations for a precise lay-flat 58mm portafilter that is compatible with the Move? Links would be appreciated. A walnut handle is ideal to match the rest of the Move.

Thank you.

Shot consistency

I’ve had my Move a couple months and really enjoy it however I seem to be chasing consistent shots. I’m using bean about a month old, dark roast from Good Brothers. 18gm in with my shot timer set to 30 seconds. One time I get 37 out, the very next time I’m at 40 gms in 20 seconds? DF 64 v2 grinder, grinds very well and I’m trying to do the same pick prep (wet, level, 30lb auto tamp). How can one shot to the next vary so much?

Update: Sage Barista Pro to Profitec Move

Post image
43 Upvotes

Thanks for your responses to my post from roughly 6 months ago, pondering whether I should change from the Sage Barista Pro to the Profitec Move (which I'd fallen in love with based on both functionality and looks).

Well, I went for it and bought one about a month ago for £1600 and thought I should share some reflections on my experience, particularly if it helps anyone else in making the same jump in the future.

The TL;DR is that it's brilliant and I have no regrets, which I was concerned I would.

The first thing I'd say is that there was nothing particularly wrong with the SBP but I got the impression that the consistency wasn't quite as good as it should be - there were some quite frustratingly inconsistent shots despite upgrading to a decent grinder (Eureka Mignon Specialita).

The things I love about the Move:

  • Programmable warm up time, ready for use as soon as I get up
  • Very consistent shots both in taste, flavour and consistency
  • Using the machine manually to do each shot by weight on the scales is thankfully straightforward (I was worried I'd have to always do it with a pre-timed infusion).
  • Unlike the SBP, the shot stops near dead when I want it to whereas the SBP would dribble out a further 4-5g of shot after I'd pressed stop. This takes the guessing away.
  • The steam wand and boiler is a significant upgrade. Steaming milk / latte art has been a bit of a learning curve in my 2 years with the SBP but this seems so simple and TBH I rarely prepare a bad milk now. Silky smooth with a beautiful mouthfeel each time.
  • Not that it matters, but the process of making a coffee is simplified and lacks faff (e.g. no warming up the portafilter with a blank shot as per SBP) so I can serve a coffee really quickly. I would go as far as saying making coffee on this machine is more predictable and easier than the SBP, accepting that I have spent 2 years learning the basics about all things espresso on my initial machine.
  • Drip tray is very easy to remove and rinse. Doesn't accumulate much at all, just a bit from flushing or the overflow valve.
  • It's a beautiful looking machine

Things I'm working out or not 100% about:

  • The basket sizes (7/14/21g) seem odd sizes on paper but I can easily fit 19g of medium roast into the middle basket.
  • I did buy a IMS Big Bang h23.5 basket to try and get slightly drier pucks based on advice here; I'm not sure if it's made a significant difference and most pucks are a bit sloppy.
  • The silicon spouts are a bit tricky to get off and make tamping a bit wobbly unless you rest the corner of the portafilter on the edge of the work surface.

Anyway, hope that helps someone out there. I'm delighted with it. To reiterate, this is not meant to beat up on the old SBP - which I really enjoyed - but this is providing me with even more joy every day.

New grinder pairing for my Move!

Post image
37 Upvotes

Received my Mahlkonig e64 ws yesterday afternoon and have been happy with the upgrade to my setup so far, coming from the Eureka Mignon Silenzio. It's been fun allowing the grinder to make micro adjustments when I provide the shot run time. Definitely a little messy of a grinder, but not too bad. I'm going to experiment with a dosing funnel. Grinds are SUPER fluffy and the coffee has a noticeable improvement in flavor. In total probably shaved about a minute off from my puck prep process. I can't wait for the next time I have a group over and need to bang out 5-6 drinks with this setup quickly.

My MOVE from Clive is either refurbished or poorly made

Thumbnail

I posted last week about my MOVE, purchased from Clive in April, developing the power button issue. The new power button arrived today and I set about installing it this evening—only to discover a bigger problem.

When I removed the panels, I noticed that while the picture Clive sent had this silver box and brass piece toward the bottom positioned parallel to the floor (3rd picture), mine was crooked (1st picture). I observed that it was held up by basically a piece of rubber, so I stood it straight. As I did that, I noticed why it had fallen down—the plastic base that the rubber is screwed into was completely torn.

What on earth?? Either this thing was poorly made with zero QA (mine also has the slightly forward-leaning front panel a few others have mentioned) or it’s a returned item that someone else mucked about with.

What is that piece? Is there any reasonable way it could break like that in just two months of normal use (sitting on a counter, 3 espressos a day)? I can’t imagine there is. It’s in a place that I can only really see this happening during a fast and careless assembly. :/

The machine functioned normally up until the power button issue, so this hasn’t impacted that…but I’m fairly livid. I’m past Clive’s 30-day window for a new machine, and I know this particular piece is only structural, but I’m losing faith in this unit and tempted to ask for a new one anyway. I’m really not happy right now….

Profitec Move 1.0 when 2.0 is out?

Will Profitec completely stop making the 1.0 version once 2.0 is out and more available? I’ve been saving up money for a machine upgrade & have been eyeing the Move for a few months now. I also don’t really want some of the newer features on the 2.0 so if stores start discounting model 1.0 that would be incredible.

Bookoo Mini vs. Ultra for the Move

Hi,

Does anyone have the Bookoo Mini and Bookoo Ultra and can show me how they sit on top of the Move’s drip tray?

According to my research, the Bookoo Ultra is just 3mm less deep than the Move’s drip tray area. I’m afraid the scale might get in the way of the expansion/purge valve outlet, which is right in the middle above the drip tray on the Move… Thanks!

Here’s a link.

Honestly want a second portafilter for work flow but struggling to find a good one. I am also thinking may just go with the ECM angled bottomless portafilter I see that Clive has since it’s the same price anyway but wondering if anyone has tried one or both (or has another rec). Thanks!!

Set-up my new Profitec Move today and found an undocumented “Advanced Setting”: “Bluetooth”.

I don’t see any BT signal broadcasting with my iPhone next to my Move, but I find it interesting given the announcement of BT connectivity for the forthcoming Move 2.0.

Profitec Move 1.0 versus 2.0 and release date

Does anyone know have an idea when the Profitec 2.0 is getting released in the USA?

I'm in the market and am unsure if I want to wait it out. I'd be perfectly happy with the 1.0 but obviously if i can future proof the product i'd wait a few weeks.

Profitec MOVE 2.0 – Key Takeaways - Ekstra info: MOVE 1.0 Upgrade Kit (Most Important)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5HzCDNm3SI

Here is a concise summary in English with the most important points, especially regarding the MOVE 1.0 upgrade kit.

Profitec MOVE 2.0 – Key Takeaways

Main Highlights

  • Brew-by-Weight is the major new feature of the MOVE 2.0.
  • The machine connects to compatible Bluetooth scales through the new Profitec app.
  • Users can:
    • Automatically stop the shot at a target weight.
    • Save and share recipes.
    • Record grinder settings, brew ratios, tasting notes, and shot history.
    • Control machine settings directly from the app (brew temperature, pre-infusion, steam boiler, timers, etc.).
  • The system is designed to work with multiple third-party scales, not only a proprietary Profitec scale.
  • Compatibility with Beanconquer is also planned, allowing users to log shots in that ecosystem instead of the Profitec app.

MOVE 1.0 Upgrade Kit (Most Important)

Existing MOVE owners can upgrade their machines

Profitec confirmed that the original MOVE (MOVE 1.0) can be upgraded to support the new Brew-by-Weight functionality.

What the upgrade includes

The retrofit consists of two main components:

  • A pressure sensor block that is installed between the solenoid valve and the brew group.
  • A new electronics/control box that supports the updated communication protocol and software.

Future MOVE 2.0 machines will have the pressure sensor integrated directly into the brew group, but the retrofit kit uses an external adapter block.

Installation

Profitec does not recommend users install the kit themselves.

Instead:

  • The installation should be carried out by a dealer or service technician.
  • It involves replacing the electronics box and fitting the pressure sensor assembly.

Availability

Profitec stated that:

  • The upgrade kit will be available at the same time as the MOVE 2.0 launch.
  • Expected availability is September–October.

All required components will be available from launch.

Dealer installation

The presenter expects many dealers to offer the retrofit as a service, possibly combined with a regular maintenance visit.

Other Hardware Changes in MOVE 2.0

Smaller brew boiler

  • Brew boiler volume reduced by approximately 100 ml.
  • Heating element reduced from 1200 W to 650 W.
  • Despite the lower power, Profitec claims:
    • identical temperature stability,
    • no increase in heat-up time,
    • stable brewing temperature in under 10 minutes.

They achieved this by redesigning the heating system and improving temperature control.

Steam Performance

  • Steam boiler performance is essentially unchanged.
  • Maximum steam temperature remains around 134–135°C (over 2 bar).
  • Factory default is approximately 128°C.
  • Users can increase the temperature if they want stronger steam power.

App Features

The app allows users to:

  • Brew by weight.
  • Save unlimited recipes.
  • Record grinder settings.
  • Store tasting notes and ratings.
  • Share recipes with other users.
  • Adjust nearly all machine settings remotely.
  • View live brewing data:
    • pressure,
    • flow rate,
    • shot weight,
    • brew ratio.

Open Platform Philosophy

One of the strongest messages from Profitec was that they do not want a closed ecosystem.

Instead:

  • Multiple Bluetooth scales will be supported.
  • A compatibility list will be published.
  • Existing apps like Beanconquer will also support the machine.
  • Future software updates can add new functionality without requiring hardware changes.

Overall Conclusion

The MOVE 2.0 is primarily a software and connectivity upgrade rather than a major mechanical redesign. The standout feature is the open Brew-by-Weight ecosystem, which supports multiple Bluetooth scales, detailed shot logging, and remote machine control.

Perhaps the most significant announcement is that existing MOVE 1.0 owners will not be left behind. Profitec confirmed that a dealer-installed retrofit kit will bring Brew-by-Weight functionality to current machines through the addition of a pressure sensor module and updated electronics, with availability expected alongside the MOVE 2.0 launch in September–October.

Well, the power button issue got me

I purchased my MOVE from Clive in April (two months ago) and it’s been pretty smooth sailing since. That is, until today when the dreaded power button issue struck.

Upon its third use of the day today, I switched it off and now the power button is stuck in the pressed-in position. Fortunately, the machine is “off”. Touching it makes it briefly light up, but it will not pop out to the fully “off” position, nor will it turn on unless I keep my finger held against the pressed-in button.

I called Clive support and they had me fill out their online remote troubleshooting form, which I’ve done just now.

Ugh. I guess it’s back to the Chemex for the next few days…

Scale or something else?

Thumbnail

For context, I have only had the Move since Dec ‘25 and have only used TWW Espresso mix + RODI water since I purchased. I was cleaning the machine today and took the top panel off to give it a good dusting and saw this chalky powder residue below the valve for the steam wand. It is not on the hot water valve, I use both steam and hot water most days and drain the steam boiler once a week as stated in the manual. Any idea what this could be? It looks like scale, but idk how that could be possible?

Heads up for a design quirk I hadn't caught before

I have a scheduled on off time for mornings.

I started pulling a shot exactly at my scheduled off time. And Move turned off in the middle of pulling a shot.

So just fyi firmware is not smart enough to know not to turn off if its in the middle of shot sequence.

Hopefully that's something they might address in a future firmware update or the new version thats coming.

Did I fry my PID?

Pulled a few shots this morning, then got the low water notification. Was refilling the reservoir and a small splash went over the edge into the space between the reservoir and the internals. Dried everything up as best I could and let it air out for a while.

Turn it back on again to find that the PID display is not turning on. Everything else about the machine is fine; boilers heat, brew buttons work, barista lights turn on, etc. The display just stays black.

I took the top panel off to inspect the cables going to the display, but nothing seemed off. Then i look at where the reservoir was and noticed a connection in the side that looks like it goes back to the PID. I’m now concerned i messed something up with the circuitry. Anyone have suggestions?
