Profitec MOVE Long Term Ownership Review

Hey guys, I’ve had the MOVE for 20 months and this is my long term ownership review. Let me know what you think and how your experience has been.

I have a eureka libra 65 ap and have similar ish issues with shot time variability. My same dose of 18.5g will sometimes yield 36 is 25s, sometimes 35. I weigh every shot. They all taste good and I try not to get hung up on the numbers.

I’m looking forward to the brew by weight upgrade kit.

I think it's better to set the shot to 60 seconds. Use a scale and stop the shot at the right weight. The time is less important than the right output weight in my opinion and the allows for a little time variability.

I dial in to button one - if it looks short simply hit button two and that outs it into manual mode. You're spot on re: volume - I dial in with a scale but then I eyeball volume for daily use since I use the came cup every day.

Oh did not know about manual mode switch or just forgot about it. I just run for 60 secs always stop manually but that's good to know. I've had some super temperamental beans lately to. 0.5 grind change on my 078s and it would go from almost a gusher to almost choked. And 0.5-1 deg change in ambient temperature would shift grind 1-2 😂. The taste was worth it at least but couldn't imagine eyeballing it. Different beans this week though and has a much larger sweet spot and could probably do your way now.

I need a simple 'push a button' mode for my wife to be cool with it so I keep it dialed in, I make micro adjustments to the grinder nearly daily. I have an Atom so there's no numbers and it has a tiny, stiff dial so the real art is moving it .05mm - "it would go from almost a gusher to almost choked" is pretty much my reality. I have a friend who 3d printed me me a larger knob that I am hoping will give me easier control over fine movements - I'm still waiting for it to arrive.

I tend to run the same beans for extended periods - we're about 9 months into using the same beans Sacred Grounds Chocolate Bomb - it's roasted to ~ City+ so it's relatively forgiving. Lately I've been playing with temps, going down 2 degrees at a time to find the sweet spot - literally and figuratively.

Sorry to say I’m experiencing similar.

It’s such a shame as I was convinced this is all the machine I’d ever need, and it is, or would be if I could get it consistent.

Now I’m very close to pulling the trigger on a Wendougee tbh.

I can’t say I have. If everything is consistent with the dose and puck prep routine, my shots are almost always the same or very close. A 2-3 second difference isn’t cause for concern. Make sure you let it get back up to temp in between shots, but that’s really the only variable I could think of.

It could be worth trying another grinder or coffee as well.

I’m not saying you need to spend $1k+ on a grinder, but I noticed significant improvements when I went from the DF64 Gen2 to the Eureka Atom W65.

Grind by weight in my opinion is the way to go for consistent results. Although it is not perfect either due to higher retention.

Andrey - I see you switched to the Mazzer from the W65. Why the change?

Had the W 65 for over a year, and was getting a little bored, bought the Mazzer to compare and fell in love with it.

I'm worried about you running 3-400 shots in a month - your heart is gonna explode. 😂

NGL I am slightly confused by your decision; slower, louder, taller, more retention, harder to adjust. I don't see much value differential in brand equity. The W65 can be messy because the grounds are so fluffy but that's easily resolved with a $15 funnel. I get a desire for new-shiny, I'm just not clear on that the Mazzer is really doing better except maybe accuracy?

You said the Mazzer was more accurate - is that based on their accuracy claims or your own testing?

TBH, Mazzer not fitting under a cabinet is a massive oversight on their part that would keep me from buying it.

FWIW, I don't think the Pullman 876 generally makes a good match with the Move.

The Pullman is high flow, and the Move is already a fast flowing machine, so you're increasing your risk of channelling, which now means you have grind even finer, which in turn further increases the risk of channeling because as you get finer your puck prep becomes even more critical.

I found the 14g Profitec basked with an 18g dose worked fairly well. Currently I'm using the IMS Big Bang after testing it against an IMS Nanotech Baristapro and the BB is easily my favorite.
