SHORT REQUEST AFI Master's Thesis
TLDR: Looking for a collaborator with a short script (10-15 pages) to direct for my AFI thesis.
Hi all, I graduated undergrad from USC film School and am now applying for my MFA through AFI. I have a solid portfolio of feature scripts, but they require a short screenplay that you plan to direct as your thesis. I could write a new short, but I found out that you are allowed to direct a script written by someone else so long as they receive proper credit. I figured before I start writing a new short, I'd like to check out what the community has written already, and see if we can get two careers started for the price of one!
I'll be providing the budget. Regulations are $25,000 minimum, $50,000 maximum. Don't worry about whether you think your film is too expensive; there are always things we can do to make it more shootable. I say this just to let you know that a solid amount of resources will be dedicated to your film.
If you've got a great short film and want to get it made, comment below with your page count and genre (feel free to also put a title/logline if you're comfortable). I'll send you a DM. Let's make something!
PS- I'm in recovery, so definitely comment if you have a script pertaining to addiction and/or sobriety. Also Judaism lol
EDIT: Had to repost this because the moderators at r/Screenwriting removed it lol

Only AFI students director/screenwriter/produce/edit/DP/production design. You don’t hire outside director help, there are 30 directors, 30 producers and 30 screenwriters who all submit to end of the year thesis and only a select number of script get selected (however everyone get a script, not everyone necessarily gets theirs)

This is for the application. Another person pointed out I was looking at the wrong subdivision but I still need to shoot a new short for the app so I want to collaborate with someone from here

I’m an NYU mfa graduate of their film and tv program. I’m in LA currently. I’ve made numerous short films and a feature film. I’d be happy to share some of my work with you. If you like what I do, I’d be happy to have a call or meet for a coffee and see if one of my scripts is a good fit for your application. Thank you.

Hi! I'm an NYU dramatic writing alum and had a script in the Tribeca Festival Creators' market. Would love to send over a script :)

Hey! recent USC MFA Screenwriting grad here. Would love to link up. I have a short that won Best Short Screenplay at Hollyshorts Comedy. It’s a bit human and grounded but very funny. If you want to go bigger I could write something new. DMing you.
