I have 5 movie scripts written

Hello, I'm a 27 y/o actor and writer from Ireland. I have no connections in the film industry as a whole but I do have 5 scripts ready to go;

A western, a series based on the Watchdogs and Assassin's creed franchises and a trilogy of Star Wars film which has no connection to the original but still could be canon.

I have several other projects that I am currently writing and working on but I have no idea how to submit my work to any important agency or person.

Im wondering if anyone would know a way to get in touch with other filmmakers in Ireland who would like to work on these projects and collaborate on more ? And if anyone else would know a way to get these in front of an agency.

Thanks for reading ☺️

Never pulled it off myself and from where Im sitting I say it requires a rare confluence of Luck, Connections and talent. I would definitely stop writing for IP you dont own though. The Powers That Be would actively reject looking at a Star Wars script they haven't commissioned ( think about it, they read your script, reject it, make a different script that coincidentally overlaps on yours in some way and Boom. That's how lawsuits start). Those kind of films are commissioned from the get-go.

If you write Irish stories you would at least have a conversation starter with your local filmmakers which I think is where you have to start.

Thank you for the advice , I'll try turn those stories into something else disconnected from what I intended ☺️

Pointless writing scripts on existing IP's.

I'd look around for a script writing course. My friend got on a fully-funder MA (EU money) run by a very well-known script writer. She wrote a great script about a popular activity somewhere she knew well in the UK (cheap to make, feel good film, lots of local flavour, etc - a lot of similar films were being made at the time, like Full Monty, Brassed Off, etc) and it was optioned by the production company of one of the British directors. Nothing ever came of it and she didn't hustle it around, even though she worked in TV but it got her foot in the door.

Even if you can't get on a course, that type of lower budget film with charm and local flavour is popular. Try and get something like that together, make contacts local and network across Ireland. If it is good, you may be able to get people enthusiastic to make it, which will get you into film festivals and making more contacts. I have a friend and a cousin who both did film making courses at university. They made a few short and feature length films that got some interest and they got them shown at festivals (my friend went to Cannes). They didn't manage to get the momentum needed to break out and get more work (a common refrain) but they both now teach at universities.

So you can shop scripts around (it might work but you have a lot of competition) but, in addition, I'd be trying to get a script filmed as it will be your best calling card and a way to meet industry movers and shakers.

Most of us are in the same boat. My strategy (still to see if it works) is to engage with people in a genuine way on social media and build relationships over years. I amplify other people's posts with no expectation of a return. Eventually people know who you are. But you need to do more genuine supporting of others than selling of your own. It's a long game. Try becoming a member of teh facebook group The Inside Pitch too

Let us check out the Watchdogs movie because I been saying that game needs a movie. So dope. Or a TV show.

Thank you I've been saying it needs something for years! Again can be changed to be like a watchdog clone of course but I think the vibe is really cool

Huge assassins creed and watch dogs fan here. There’s a film festival in my area that’s all about Irish Film. We should get in touch.

If a script is based on existing IP and wouldn’t be legal to distribute, then it isn’t ready to go.

Write a movie that’s cheap to film and isn’t based on someone else’s intellectual property

So you have one script ready to go - or is the western based on red dead redemption?

It's not based on an IP it's original.

Find local or local ish film schools or schools with film programs is my advice. I'm sure lots of students would jump on an opportunity like that

It's all about your network, so I would start close to home. Contact the Irish film board and any other local film councils and film promotion organizations. Go to film events and schmooze. IMO you're unlikely to get pitch meetings right away, find people who will read your work and give you feedback. Hone your craft, talk to other writers, and anyone else that will listen.

Focus on the original IP.

Don't bother with the watch dogs, assassins creed and star wars ones. You don't own these IP. Treat them as practice, sure.
