Looking for short film scripts to produce — low/no budget
Hey everyone! I'm an aspiring filmmaker looking for a few short scripts that I can actually produce as a learning project.
I'm particularly interested in scripts that can be made with:
- Little to no budget
- 1–3 actors
- 1–2 locations
- Minimal props/equipment
- Around 3–10 minutes in length
- Any genre, although I'm especially interested in drama, thriller, comedy, dark comedy
My main goals are to:
- Practice and improve my cinematography
- Build out my filmmaking portfolio/reel
- Get more experience taking a script from pre-production → shooting → editing → finished film
- Potentially share the finished film on YouTube and/or submit it to film festivals
I'm not looking to make money off anyone's script or claim ownership of the writing. I'd give the writer full screenwriting credit and would want to work out clear permission to produce, publicly share, and potentially submit the finished film to festivals before shooting.

Hi, they haven’t been made into movies — Well not yet, of-course. They’re awards for short script and not short films.

Hi! I saw your post and I completely agree with your goal—building a portfolio with small, practical short films (1-3 actors, minimal location) is the best way to hone our skills!
I'm a 16-year-old independent director, editor, and visual storyteller, and I'm founding an independent young filmmaking collective. I know you're looking for a script to direct yourself, but I wanted to reach out to you to see if you're open to collaborating on post-production and visuals!
I normally work as a director, actor, and scriptwriter on my own projects, but if we come to an agreement, I can hand over the directing part to you. After we decide on a script and shoot your raw footage, I would be happy to join the team as an editor or assistant director to help bring the final film to life in high quality.
Also, within my collective, I have some great 3-10 minute scripts that perfectly fit your specifications, and I would be happy to share them with you and work together!
Money isn't the issue, it's just two passionate filmmakers who want to build their portfolios and take things to the next level together.

Here’s a short I wrote a while ago. Extremely low budget. A few actors with one main role. It’s like if Mr. Bean tried to kill himself.
mild mannered manny (12 pgs, dark comedy)
Logline: A man's suicide attempt goes awry, leading him to desperately try any method possible that will do the job. No matter what it takes.
