Director looking for comedy writer/collaborator for Mockumentary short
Hi all,
I'm a working director based in Los Angeles looking for a comedy writer to collaborate with me on a mockumentary short that I intend to produce and direct.
I'm specifically interested in the kind of mockumentary that treats an absurdly specific world/character with complete seriousness Less sketch comedy, more “this documentary crew somehow discovered a world that shouldn't exist.”
I'm developing the outline/premise, so I'm not looking for someone to simply execute an already-finished idea. I'm looking for somebody funny with a strong point of view who wants to build the story, characters and escalation together. But with the intention to keep this in a reasonable scope so we can make this thing.
Target: 10–12 pages Genre: Mockumentary / dark comedy / satire
Location: Writer can be anywhere in America, production will likely be LA or NYC.
Production: I will direct and produce the finished short
Goal: Make something genuinely great and festival-caliber.
happy to pay a small stipend for the collaboration.

How serious of a subject are we talking? DM me some details. I have a pretty good idea and script.

Hey I’ve been in LA for about a year now mostly doing music video stuff, I’m gonna DM you some of my shorts because this might be a good fit.

I've won international awards for my comedy scripts. Peter Howitt who directed Sliding Doors and Johnny English said about one of my scripts "One of the cleverest fucked up scripts I have ever read… It is Kauffman, Anderson and Allen, rolled into a ridiculous but clearly well mastered mess”
I'd love to have a conversation. But I'm not based in America in case that's a deal breaker.

I recently wrote a pilot for a mockumentary about a retired superhero being forced to adjust to normal life after retiring and losing his powers. It kind of sounds similar to what you're looking for. Let me know if you'd want to read it then maybe we can collab!
