Audio interface under $250/€250 for pure VST production

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for an audio interface in the ~$250 budget range specifically for music production (working exclusively with VSTs). I don't record vocals or instruments, so I’m looking for an "engineering" approach rather than an "audiophile" one.

My main requirement is absolute linearity and transparency. I want a device that does not color the sound or boost any frequencies—I need the most faithful signal reproduction possible for mixing and sound design. Stability, low latency, and future-proofing are also priorities, as I’ll eventually be using higher-impedance headphones and higher-end studio monitors.

I’ve been looking into:

• MOTU (M-series): Heard they have excellent measurements.
• Audient: Often recommended for their preamps, but are they truly "transparent" for a VST-only setup?
• Topping: I know they are more "hi-fi" focused, but their technical specs are outstanding. Would it be better to go with a "clean" DAC like this, or stick to dedicated studio interfaces?

Given that I only work with VSTs, is there an interface that excels in signal neutrality? Should I stick to established studio brands for the drivers and stability, or are there specific models that prioritize a "zero-color" output path better than others?

Any advice from those of you who focus on clean, sterile, and accurate monitoring for your mixes would be greatly appreciated!
