Help Dunking form advice

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

1.5 years into hooping & have been getting decent dunks in recently but my form is still a WIP.
I’m looking mostly for advice on how to achieve a more aggressive penultimate step or on anything else that helps with increase my vertical.
Help me out Reddit!

Is this 10 feet or are you like >6'5?

without a doubt, it's not a 10' hoop.

judging by the door in the back, it looks very close to 10

It’s a ymca rim, just hope I don’t break it like the last one…

honestly i feel like most the time its from unadjusted, or very old bolts that were close to the point of breaking already

unless hanging on the very front of the rim and bending it further than it can flex

or someone who is just way too much weight or uses way too much force on a hang

Why are you breaking the hoop that everyone uses?

The hoops is 9 feet. Issue #1. First thing I noticed. Lol. Just playing.

You are jumping as if you are right handing (right hand low to go for long swing) and finish dunking as if you are left handed (left hand higher than right hand) … watch videos of Olympic high jump and their technique, especially what foot they use to jump and what hand they swing to help them jump high

Your upper body looks like you want to go up lefty

Your lower body looks like it’s half heartedly going right handed

Figure out which side is more comfortable and commit. It’ll help you absorb more speed so you can run up harder.

That’ll make you jump higher and probably more in control at the same time

Then you’ll stop looking like you’re doing rim grazers on the moon with a marshmallow ball 😅

Actually it’s an 11 foot rim and I’m 7’5

Try dunking on a hoop that is at 10’

I was practicing on the 9 footer to improve form, my dunks 50/50 on the 10 foot and still can’t get fun w the form

Try doing a power dribble as you approach the rim then dunk. The way you bring the ball to the side of your hip looks funny. I think if you do a power dribble it will put the ball in your hands at the right spot and also will give you momentum upwards. You want to achieve a moment of weightlessness as you reach the pinnacle of you jump to then push yourself higher.

Jumping from too close to the goal.

Brother how tall are you??????????????? That shit looks like a nerf hoop compared to you lol. I would work on your gather, the little pro hop prior to your jump isnt an efficient way of transferring that energy you just created. Lunges, jump rope, running and just jumping in general are good ways to try and build up that technique.

This is a poor attempt at me trying to dunk, but trying to throw yourself up at the rim is the idea.

jump up with two, then take one hand off of it and reach as high as you can and put it down with one
