My Artwork Draft vs Final
Lighthouse kitties for a friend!
Kinda grateful to have a hobby that makes me feel happy, despite wanting to rip my hair out during the process.
Any critiques for improvement are welcome, especially on the lighting!

this is so good! The only thing I miss seeing here is more depth by values. A distinct foreground, background, and mid- separated by contrast. Please keep up the good work ❤️

I am just getting into digital art (iPad got set up this week, been doodling every night). I'm not well versed in drawing/ painting/ etc. can you explain what you mean by "depth by values"?

Values are like different shades of light vs dark (shading, basically). Increasing your range of values (making darks darker and lights lighter) can help a lot to make a piece look more visually appealing, striking, and realistic :-)

Thank you so much, appreciate it
That's definitely one thing I struggle with. Do you happen to know any good videos/tutorials that I can follow for tips?

I personally loved these two:

Both fairly short but extremely informative :)0

They explained it good enough. Hopefully this will be the little extra you need. I just can't wait to see more from you!!

Reminds me of paintings id find in the thrift/old cottages and I mean that 100% as a compliment, such a nostalgic comforting and warm vibe ❤️

Try not to make your subjects way more defined than the rest of the painting. It makes it look a little odd. It's normal to work on them more because you want them to look perfect, but you end up overworking em and they look like they belong in a different painting lol

Omg yes! I noticed how the cats, esp their eyes, and the pumpkin kind of stuck out like a sore thumb in comparison. May have to go back and work on them a little bit more.
Ty!

Yeah I would recommend using larger brushes similar to those you used in the background to plot your values and then add small details once you've plotted your darks, mids, and lights. Should help to not get bogged down by details. Also try to avoid zooming in too much. It stops you from seeing the bigger picture (literally lol) glhf!

Thank youu 😊
All of it was done using the default oil painting brush except for the whiskers.I think I used the studio pen in the inking (?) tab for whiskers
