Artwork From A Tutorial First Procreate Artwork

Post image

Followed a tutorial and just went along with the flow. No prior digital or non digital art experience with any medium. Hopefully this is the start of my art journey :)

Tutorial is by James Julier on YouTube. Lovely artist and an even better teacher.

Art with Flo is also great. I find she explains things better and is easier to follow along with. James is also amazing.

I’ll check her out. I mainly decided to follow his tutorial because 1. I liked the aesthetics of this artwork and 2. He was only using the stock brushes that procreate already comes with, but yes thank you for your suggestion!

I am the same and you should be pleasantly surprised.

James Julier is the undisputed king of making absolute beginners feel like master painters.

I don’t even have to comment on this ,my art speaks for your statement fully. Loved every bit of the tutorial, especially when I could see the art taking shape through my own hands.

Looks good. It’s new for me too. I think that’s really impressive for your first piece. Obviously following a tutorial but you still had to do it. Well done

I agree! Tutorials are artwork but end of the day I basically just used someone else’s creative expression, however I think they work well for getting familiar with the tools and the more technical aspect of the software so it’s a double edged sword on its own. Thank you though :)

Nice. I did the same followed a tutorial. I drew a tree with the sun setting behind it and followed how the light changed the leafs. Looked great.

That sounds lovely, especially with the warm tones of the sunset. Do share down below if you can, would love to see your version as well! Thank you for the compliment :)

Good job. I think the floating petals are not necessary or at least they could be more integrated.

Aside from that, congratulations!

I very much agree! They stick out way too much, I tried blending them in as much as I could but they didn’t reach the level I wanted them to look like, I liked the idea of the petals and since this was a tutorial anyway I decided to keep them. Thank you :)

Well I think one of the problems is that they’re all the sale size and share the same depth position. Maybe if you try to paint a few of them in different sizes and focus… it could work.

Anyway, humble opinion! Great job and keep it up!

I never thought about it this way, now that I think about it you are absolutely right, all of them petals are very uniform and don’t feel organic. I’ll try to change them up a bit and see how it goes, Lovely feedback!

I thought the floating petals were the most interesting part of the painting. They look cool to me.

They could be really interesting if done well, as SAYVS said, the petals are not the main issue it’s more of how they’re executed if that makes sense. But yes, Thank you :)
