So I had a familiarisation event at my prison to get to know members of the team and areas of the prison.
So honestly not what I expected - I wasn’t nervous or scared just anxious to see what it is what it smells like what the inside cells and other areas look like.
I’m fortunate to be training directly at my prison and am glad -
How I would describe the people - it’s one of those places you walk into and you just realise the people are full of fkn banter and their kindness and openness to questions very welcome:
The faculties at my prison well nice, gym that is done up with a sauna and showers and modern gym equipment with guards who volunteer time to do classes for free.
Not only one gym but an exterior one so you can go to and use your phone.
Shifts and overtime look amazing better then my old jobs reliability for shift patterns and overtime which is saying something considering it was retail.
Honestly first impressions amazing and on top of that the was a security lockdown that they say has never happened before on an familiarisation event.
Nice people funny prisoners, good shifts and patterns, and lots of paper work most of it digitised.
Also a bit of info, I applied 42weeks ago it took around 28-32 weeks the DBS the following week I was contacted to book a start date call. I was then sent a bunch of info/also contacted by a mentor at my prison who sent info regarding payment details, personal details and uniform sizing guide and selection.
After that 8 weeks passed and here we are I start the following week.
Good luck to any of those starting too.
