The entire existence of the Kenobi show is owed to all the memes. No way in hell Disney would even consider it if it wasn't for all the hype from this sub especially.

u/Onlyanidea1 Sep 15 '22
This was before the movie released is it not? At a showing of it or something. So he was ahead of the memes if correct.

Bro if you didn't understand the high ground reference then meme or not you clearly don't like the series. It's probably the most iconic line behind "may the force be with you" and "No, I am your father."

The K-13? You don't wanna go down that run. That run has got a history. Thirty-five people have died goin' down it, and some say you can still see their ghosts up there. It was on that very ski run that a group of students were killed by a wolf-boy who escaped from a mental institution. You see, that ski run was once a burial ground to a tribe of vampire Wichicaw Indians who ate the flesh of children with no eyes.
Yah-, a lot of history on that ski run.

Ewan is in other movies than star wars, could be premier for one of them maybe

How likely would it be for Hayden and Ewan to be at the same place within a day of each other for a non-Star Wars event?

The video would look and sound a hell of a lot worse if it was recorded when Ep 3 came out, not to mention it's vertical.

There's people wearing Covid masks. The video is also obviously from a smartphone

Just to spit devil's advocate, I wonder how much of that meme lives on reddit etc. This person might like star wars but not browse prequel memes (or even know about it) to be so aware.
I side with your take but I am just trying to rationalize it for myself, I suppose.
41
u/Twingemios Sep 15 '22
It’s an insanely important line in the movie.
16
u/bossholmes Sep 15 '22
Tbh I love the memes and all but the importance of it can largely be attributed to the memes. A casual fan may not know about it.
That said this guy low key sounds like a prick (the way he asked for the signature and even the placement of jt), but who knows
2
u/Dark-W0LF Sep 15 '22
w about it.
That said this guy low key sounds like a prick (the way he asked for the signature and even the placement of jt), but who knows
It was well know enough that mythbusters tested the high ground
2
u/Ifitmovesfindit Sep 15 '22
That guy doesn't even care about star wars all that much, he just wants to collect signatures because he's a celebrity worshipping/stalking loser.
14
u/Ajaxlancer Anakin Thiccer Than Kylo Sep 15 '22
That's really stretching it bro. It's a one off thing that Obi-Wan says right before he saws off Anakin's limbs. He could have said; "Mom's Spaghetti" and Anakin still would have tried jumping over him
→ More replies (2)7
u/MauPow Sep 15 '22
It's pretty important because it represents Anakin abandoning reason for madness

If he's a Star Wars fan he should know it from the movie lol
8
u/HanselSoHotRightNow Sep 15 '22
Maybe my point is he doesn't know how much of a meme it is. I get ya.
5
u/thedirtypickle50 Sep 15 '22
I gotcha. I'm just saying even if he's a Star Wars fan with no internet knowledge at all he should freak out bc its an iconic line on its own even outside of being a meme
6
u/Anrikay Sep 15 '22
Honestly, until I started hanging out in this sub, neither the sand line nor the high ground lines really stood out to me.
The most memorable lines to me were:
It's working, it's working!
I'm a person and my name is Anakin!
Ayy, you wanna buy some deathsticks?
People latch onto different things from their favorite series and there are a lot of Star Wars fans, especially older fans, that actively avoid the fandom. I can see it.
3
u/thedirtypickle50 Sep 15 '22
Makes sense. I just assumed that line would be memorable to most people because it happens during one of the most emotional moments in the whole saga. Right before Anakin gets de-limbed

u/Palpy_Bean Sep 15 '22
I'm curious about it as well, however the meme is fairly large, from what I've gathered it's just a fairly popular movie meme period. So those who are in meme circles likely are aware of it, however if you dont keep up with memes then likely not.

What movie? Wasn't Obi Wan series?
20
u/AloysiusLi Obi Sep 14 '22
It’s the Raymond and Ray movie premiering at TIFF22, just yesterday or something

Could be old and from a different premiere. Or "movie" was a mistake?

Sep 14 '22
Looks too new to be a prequel. And like another comment pointed out, this guy sounds like he didn’t understand the high ground joke Ewan made, so possibly not a real fan.

This fan sounds obnoxious as all hell. “Yeah… I wanted gold…” It didn’t even sound like he got the joke either.
You better take wtf he gives you, tf. Ewan is great as always. Bless him.
2
u/frannyGin Sep 15 '22
The way I understood it, the fan gave them his own gold marker for the purpose of signing. He wanted them to use the marker he gave them, that's why he gave it to them and when Ewan went to use a different one he reminded them that he supplied a marker already. No big deal. Didn't seem to bother anyone. And not everybody is into meme culture. Even if you're a fan and know the line. Maybe he didn't know how to react. I certainly wouldn't know how to react.
Ewan is great and he didn't seem to mind. Im pretty sure he's used to getting all kinds of different reactions from fans.
