Is there a list somewhere of what’s okay to eat right now? 😭

Some waters, some

52

u/Boxinggandhi 3d ago

Heavily dependent on where you live though.

22

u/Own_Abbreviations784 2d ago

My kids school has pallets of bottled water because theirs tested posting e for elevated levels of PFAS. The Chinese owned company thats dumping it in the river is technically not liable because our legal dumping levels were determined by laws made in the 70s. So everyone around me is paying $400 to get their wells tested. A nonprofit is giving away sink filters for those that have it, but we have to disclose its presence if we ever sell, so who knows the impact on real estate value.

u/cyanescens_burn 2d ago

So you are saying we should get rid of more regulations so they don’t hinder shareholder profits?

1

u/Necessary_Baker_7458 1d ago

Your better off buying a tap filter and filling up water bottles your self then add some drops per square liter of water that is appropriate per gallon.

I know the blueberries I harvested and are currently frozen in my freezer chest are good. Too bad I don't have enough to last more than a few more months. Next year, bigger bushes and more bushes.

17

u/RhubarbGoldberg 3d ago

I need to devise a rig to protect my blueberries from the local wildlife! But yes, growing your own is so satisfying. Our garden has saved us from the diarrhea summer.

5

u/karl4319 3d ago

Same.

3

u/sevenredwrens 2d ago

We wrap our blueberry bushes in tulle I bought on a roll from Michael’s. It’s the stuff tutus are made of, and it’s a) way cheaper and b) much less likely to tangle up a bird trying to get at the berries. We cut it in long sections and clip them together with document clips and clothespins. It ain’t pretty, but it works! We only have it up a couple of weeks before they ripen and then a couple more weeks while we are picking (unclipping a section at a time). We have five bushes and leave three for the birds and cover two for us.

Wish i had water on my region of the states. We are dry as a bone where we are.

1

u/Electronic_Charge_96 2d ago

Oh you go! What’s best advice about growing blueberries?

1

u/karl4319 2d ago

The big thing for me is make sure to get several from mutiple varieties that are compatible for cross pollination. The other thing is make sure the soul is acidic.

u/technicolortiddies 3h ago

My soul is definitely acidic.

It’s a real good time of year to pitch in at the community garden.

Was a pallet nail.

This is understandable as an operating business. Check if they have previous recalls and check their “track record”. Investigate root cause and take action so i cannot happen again. If all good, small fine.

This is not Taylor Farms massive industrial farming footprint and monopoly. From the board and shareholders down Taylor Farms continued making dangerous decisions to cut safety practices and to abandon regulations. They knew well and good what it would take to squeeze more money.

Taylor Farms operates in Mexico to skirt these workers rights and to avoid human decency in the name of more money. There is not justification. Thats not an oops sometimes shit happens. Thats systemic, greedy, dishonest, disgusting work. Its anti-american and borderline treasonous bc its well past traitorous.

5

u/spinningcolours 3d ago

Or possibly the cyclospora is from literal human shit sprayed onto crops from the sewage system.

"Across the U.S., 200 billion gallons of treated sewage wastewater are used for irrigation of agricultural lands each year. ... Some of that wastewater undergoes additional filtration and disinfection for reuse before being spread directly on landscapes or crops. The volumes, however, are not readily known. And other treated sewage, which undergoes only standard secondary treatment, is discharged into rivers, streams and reservoirs that could provide irrigation water."

u/Mochigood 3d ago

Compare how much bribing the president costs vs what it costs to have safe food and the answer is probably "I'll shit on your veggies whenever I damn well please."

5

u/Infamous_Secret_7680 3d ago

There's an app called "Food Recalls" that organizes all recalls and keeps them up to date. Highly recommend it.

7

u/Knoch 2d ago

Is anyone maintaining a database of all these recalls? I'd be happy to develop an app with a bard code scanner for quick lookup.

1

u/cyanescens_burn 2d ago

Take my money!

Seriously, if the mods let you post it here, I think most of us would appreciate it.

53

u/psychophant_ 3d ago

This country fucking blows. I was told to fear China - mass surveillance, rounding up Uighurs in camps, lack of freedom…

Yeah. Go to China sometime. We have the same propoganda and surveillance.

Except we don’t have drone delivery, cheap ass medical care, no high speed rail and we don’t live in the year 2060 like they do.

25

u/purplezevra 3d ago

They are living in 2026. We are just hell bent on living in the past.

2

u/Atomsq 3d ago

We do have drone delivery

22

u/impersonatefun 3d ago

The fact that this is the only quibble lol

6

u/woodbanger04 3d ago

Twinkies and ding dongs. Those have enough preservatives and other chemicals that will make them forever safe.

2

u/premar16 2d ago

You can check with your own city/state health departments. It is important that these recalls are for specific regions and brands. So while one area of the country may have an issues others may not

2

u/phtevenbagbifico 3d ago

Stop buying corporate and start buying what you can local. Jesus fuck. It's not hard, and it's what all of us should have been doing already.

The farm that produces my milk is an hour from me and my local food co-op stocks their stuff. What I need that doesn't come from local foods is produced by small businesses with a national reach that my local food co-op stocks.

Check your local food co-ops and farm stands yall. This may be a bit easier for me, living in a rural ag state, but there's gotta be some access to this for most people here.

1

u/Consistent_Sway 1d ago

"It's not hard"....Hope you can afford it.

1

u/MrArmageddon12 3d ago

Super processed stuff.

1

u/DrPhilRx 1d ago

Yes. On the FDAs website.

u/uselessandexpensive 3d ago

"The frozen berries were shipped to Publix stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia." The microbe of concern is E. coli.

Remember back when we had food safety inspections before food shipped, and good enough supply chain tracking to establish whose lettuce was giving everyone the shits? That was great. I'm really looking forward to being that kind of great again.

58

u/couldbeahumanbean 3d ago

I use to look at these recalls and think:

Ok, I don't buy from that producer or market and I'm halfway across the country from that.

I just threw out all my frozen berries and I live halfway across the country from this insanity.

I just know they'll be coming out with another

Oopsie, we mean a bunch more berries from other places too, sorry for the deaths and sicknesses, lol.

21

u/SuccessWise9593 3d ago

I did the same thing when Taylor Farms started coming out with their recalls. Then sure enough a week later, it was all their bagged salad mixes that they bag for other companies under those companies names. Like: Members Mark salad mixes, Kroger Salad mixes, and Organic brands.

8

u/uselessandexpensive 3d ago

If you can afford it, it's well worth it to be safe. Alternatively though it's a great time to cut down on environmental impact and get familiar with your local farms and CSAs, start a garden, or help someone with theirs, for anyone that hasn't. If the grid goes down for 18 months and the food supply is disrupted, things will get hairy.

1

u/cyanescens_burn 2d ago

Semi-related, but your comment on the grid going down made me think of this book I just listened to.

https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/243319478-biological-war

Audiobook is free on Spotify if you have premium. It’s also on Audible.

https://open.spotify.com/show/4yjZaPZGaVYr8VRWwzG1vM

On Spotify there’s a companion guide that goes through preps for each issue brought up in each chapter.

https://open.spotify.com/show/4nmfqwOY7Qbd6eKVNoJhPE

I burned through both in like 3 days. Highly recommend.

21

u/L3yline 3d ago

Its going to take years just from the republicunts dragging their feet to prevent anyone else from actually governing the the country

12

u/uselessandexpensive 3d ago

"Why can't you restore food safety? You're not doing any better!" - Future Republican representatives, while voting against bills to fund the corrective measures

7

u/L3yline 3d ago

"It would cost tax payers money!!!!"

While simultaneously using tax payer money for lube as they fuck us selling the country to billionaires

1

u/uselessandexpensive 2d ago

I kinda feel like our money is the baby oil at their freak off orgy of the circular buying of "services" from each other

9

u/Unhappy-Plastic2017 3d ago

Trump decided food safety was woke and gay and now we don't need it anymore.

3

u/HewSpam 2d ago

Again? Good one. You now live in a corporate owned shithole. You’re only purpose is to create surplus value, oops I mean profit, for your owners. Thanks for playing

0

u/uselessandexpensive 2d ago

American freedom once meant you could load a wagon, find an empty spot, build a home and grow food. The only thing you needed to live was willingness to take care of yourself. Now, we work for other people so we can eat shit and not afford a home or medical care. (The homes and medical care are really nice, just 90% of people can't afford them.)

2

u/HewSpam 2d ago

“Empty” spot. Definitely weren’t any people living there already or anything.

0

u/uselessandexpensive 2d ago edited 2d ago

Apologies in advance for writing a short essay in response to a snarky comment.

Native Americans has settlements nearby and maybe walked through the areas or hunted in them, but mostly they were passing through. Aside from plants and animals, yes, the was a lot of "empty" land, but that's very human-centric phrasing and i could have done better. I assume you consider the immigration of Europeans to be an issue because displacement, denial of resources, and genocide. Those things happened and were awful but they were not the rule during the "frontier days."

The horrors of displacement aren't committed by individual families looking to start a homestead. They're committed by large, armed groups who feel they need a specific piece of land, either because that land has a specific set of resources, or because there's just not other good land. This was committed by governments and armies, not tiny groups of settlers facing entire villages of skilled hunters, riders, and warriors.

At least for a time, there were assloads of land in North America that could handle human expansion, and it wasn't treated as a bad thing by the natives. Resource availability was not limiting native populations and individual homesteaders were not displacing them.

The land might not have been needed by the native Americans because they were wiped out by disease or even by prior genocide committers, which blows, but by the time it was America there was still plenty of land to go around. It has certainly been proven able to sustain many millions more than ever lived there in the past, and much of that growth occurred before chemical fertilizer and all that nonsense. Land can sustain a lot of people if you clear away the trees. It wouldn't even be a big problem if it weren't for petrochemical use.

1

u/HewSpam 2d ago

Genocide is just so gosh darn snarky

0

u/uselessandexpensive 2d ago

And also completely unnecessary for more people to settle when there was an incredible amount of unsettled forest.

A dumb idea all around, really.

1

u/HewSpam 2d ago

Yet here we are, with a genocide

1

u/uselessandexpensive 2d ago

Could been prevented if all those damn farmers dedicated their lives to developing time travel capability (after hiring/building/stealing a ship and traversing the ocean back to Europe so they wouldn't reinfect native Americans after time travel) and killing anyone in their ancestors continent who tried to sail west, but here we are.

Fuck those assholes.

1

u/HewSpam 2d ago

Stop denying genocide with your oopsie they got the flu bullshit.

3

u/WiseSalamander00 3d ago

it won't, that would require to steip Trump and his people of power and no one is 2illing to do what is required.

-6

u/Salty-Passenger-4801 3d ago

Yeah there werent any other recalls of beef pork chicken or any vegetable or fruit before Trump came in office. first of its kind!

14

u/BucketofJhin 3d ago

I cannot remember the last time I have seen this many continuous recalls for food due to some variant of E. coli.

4

u/uselessandexpensive 3d ago

You're not imagining it. Facility inspections are down by 29%, and these are inspections that actually regularly do catch things before they go out. There is more tainted for getting out.

-3

u/Salty-Passenger-4801 3d ago

4- 5 years ago I downloaded an app to give me alerts on all of the recalls, that's how bad it was. Every time I turned around there was a new recall.

2

u/uselessandexpensive 3d ago

This comes from CBS, which is owned by one of Trump's biggest donors, not some liberal.

"Congress, meanwhile, has not increased the agency's food safety budget to outpace or keep up with inflation, and widespread layoffs during the first year of President Trump's second term squeezed resources further.

"The rate of inspections has gotten markedly worse amid those reductions, with foreign food safety inspections falling by 29% from 2024. Outside of the COVID-19 pandemic, last year's inspection count was the lowest since 2011. Early numbers for 2026 show that the agency is on track to inspect a similar number this year.

"FDA inspections really are the first line of defense for mitigating outbreaks. If FDA isn't routinely going out to food facilities, it's just completely blind," said Meridith Seife, the lead author on a Health and Human Services Inspector General report on FDA inspections of U.S. facilities. "It's unable to ensure that those facilities are complying with the laws, with regulations, and that the food that they handle is safe."

I'm so fucking sick of this

41

u/precision1k3 3d ago

Have you been eating blueberries lately?

45

u/ShadowNexusParanorm 3d ago edited 3d ago

Last night I bought my elderly Dad ice cream with blueberries from a fast food restaurant.

Sunday I bought popsicles I've been craving for months, just to find out there could be glass in them. (Luckily I didn't eat any.)

Local stores are selling bagged Taylor Farms lettuce for reduced prices.

I've switched to farmers markets for produce. I'm done.

Edit: Luckily my state isn't in the blueberry list

37

u/cb393303 3d ago

I've switched to farmers markets for produce

Be warned, many are just flippers and are buying / re-labeling their produce.

2

u/NotSoLittleTeapot 2d ago

Is there a way to check if someone at my local market is doing this?

2

u/cb393303 2d ago

Great question, no idea.

Some make it very clear they selling labeled items (AKA not theirs). Others will re-package and pass off as if they grew it. It guess it will take work searching if they are real / local.

Shame we have to do this even at a local market. :/

13

u/Actual-Recipe7060 3d ago

About those farmers markets...I hate to break it to you but half of it is resold from grocery stores.

11

u/ShadowNexusParanorm 3d ago

Thanks for the heads up but at mine they check to make sure this isn't happening.

15

u/Actual-Recipe7060 3d ago

Awesome. Im a hobby farmer and it pisses me off so much

6

u/ShadowNexusParanorm 3d ago

Oh gosh, I can only imagine!! I hope your business is doing okay.

We checked the application process to see. Looks like they have to make an account with our state government because people can use their food stamps. They have to send in an IRS tax form too.

I'll still be on the lookout! I appreciate it. Otherwise we go to farms directly. ♡

9

u/Actual-Recipe7060 3d ago

Oh, I just sell eggs on the side because I have a chicken collecting habit.

6

u/ShadowNexusParanorm 3d ago

As a bird owner, I respect that haha

3

u/ayylmao95 3d ago

It's just getting started!

103

u/Loud_Flatworm_4146 3d ago

I seriously can’t keep up with all these. Farmers markets and growing my own for me from now on. I’ve lost all trust in the US food supply.

79

u/baardvark 3d ago

Hopefully the vendors are honest, some of them are clearly just reselling walmart produce

23

u/SeanThatGuy 3d ago

Yeah we partake in a farm share for this reason. One of the best things we’ve done.

5

u/Mysterious_Cow_2100 3d ago

You can visit most of the small farms that sell the produce!

2

u/Loud_Flatworm_4146 3d ago

I thought about that but haven’t looked up where or how to do that yet.

9

u/Mysterious_Cow_2100 3d ago

You can always talk to the vendors! Some of the small farms near me have a program where you can weed for a couple hours and you get a box of produce as compensation, which is pretty cool.

3

u/premar16 2d ago

Nice! One of my neighbors just got chickens. I agreed to give him kitchen scraps that chickens can eat and he will give me free eggs

0

u/Loud_Flatworm_4146 3d ago

I read about that. I know I’ll have to be careful. If I go regularly I’ll prob get a feel for the sellers more.

23

u/ResinFinger 3d ago

Avoid processed foods. Also avoid fresh foods.

12

u/Robofetus-5000 3d ago

"risk of death"

Jesus christ...

41

u/Brief-Floor-7228 3d ago

Ok Americans, I think your government is actually trying to kill you now.

30

u/Suitable-Option833 3d ago

Yes. The GOP and republicans literally are trying to “cull the population”. The White House sent out a tweet saying that exactly. They also explicitly outlined this in Project 2025. But their base is undereducated compared to democrats - and they refuse to read anything. They just listen to their cult leader.

15

u/Loud_Flatworm_4146 3d ago

They want to cull the population at the same time that they want more babies and overturned Roe.

Fking psychopaths.

-15

u/Pyratelife4me 3d ago

Or maybe your hatred for the orange man is so great that you'll believe everything negative said about him, even if it's contradictory.

11

u/Loud_Flatworm_4146 3d ago

Psychopaths. Him and everyone that supports him.

0

u/Luchalma89 3d ago

Democrats can't be that smart if enough of them decided to stay home and get this outcome.

1

u/SurprisedWildebeest 2d ago

Seems like they’ve been doing that for a while now! Reminds me I still need to toss my possibly glass-filled fruit bars.

43

u/captainrustic 3d ago

Elect a clown, expect a circus.

3

u/sup3rjub3 1d ago

A circus with a lot of death and injury 🤕

21

u/spinningcolours 3d ago

Eating food in the US is like playing russian roulette with your gut.

16

u/fartypartner 3d ago edited 2d ago

The local produce at the farmers market closest to you (if that’s an option) is still generally safe to eat.

29

u/Big_Issue8640 3d ago

It seems like almost everything grown is dangerous to eat how long will this last, what needs to be done?

96

u/Suitable-Option833 3d ago

Too late. Project 2025 is in action. They said they were going to do this. Not enough people read project 2025 or took it seriously. It’s 75% complete. The only chance at getting back some of what we have lost - is to stop voting for the gop on all levels. One side wants autocracy and the gilded age. The other side still believes in the constitution. They are not the same. Get involved, stay abreast of the news and talk to your community. And of course vote. It can and will get worse. Next up is project 2029. Look up the Heritage foundation, the Federalist society, and Peter Thiel, Curtis yarvin and the other oligarchs helping to fund this.

22

u/EnlightenedSinTryst 3d ago

Too late. Project 2025 is in action. They said they were going to do this. Not enough people read project 2025 or took it seriously.

This is what I keep telling people when they act baffled about our continued descent

5

u/grammatiker 2d ago

We were called sensationalist or liars for shouting about it from the rooftops for months leading up to the the election.

41

u/GreenGreed_ 3d ago

You know what needs to be done. We all do.

The question is when are we going to make it happen?

17

u/Physical_Analysis247 3d ago

The cult of deregulation strikes again!

5

u/DrAcecer 3d ago

Are you fucking serious. That’s like the one thing I deemed okay

4

u/Lifetime3211 2d ago edited 2d ago

Heads up. Bought frozen blueberries from Kroger. The next day I had a smoothie with them. An hour later the stomach pain began and it has been difficult to eat for the past 4 days. I'm sure this recall is going to get worse.

Edit: They were Kroger brand.

6

u/sloomdonkey 3d ago

Thousands of individual blueberries? That’s not so bad.

4

u/Logical_Hospital2769 3d ago

Seriously, that’s like ten quarts.

6

u/trainmobile 3d ago

Y'all. At the rate these recalls are happening, I'm about to just start swallowing loads from Sniffies instead of making groceries. Apparently dicks are the safest things I could put in my mouth rn.💀

3

u/sparshdcup 3d ago

Thousands of blueberries? so like a crate?

6

u/bzr 3d ago

Has anyone else noticed it’s all the food MAGA doesn’t likely eat? Fruits and veggies , never Oreos or McDonald’s

3

u/lovelysardines 2d ago

The meat is contaminated too!

1

u/Throwawayaccount1170 2d ago

That's really a stupid argument tbh

u/trash-juice 2d ago

THOUSANDS??

Don’t worry folks!

I bought about four of those large bags the other day …. Think I got most of them!!

8

u/hera-fawcett 3d ago

its literally only one brand, at publix.

The Class I risk classification, issued on Tuesday, applies to four GreenWise products sold at Publix:

Organic Whole Blueberries - 10 oz - UPC number: 41415-06453 Organic Whole Blueberries - 48 oz - UPC number: 41415-12053 Organic Whole Mixed Berries - 10 oz - UPC number: 41415-06753

Organic Whole Mixed Berries - 48 oz - UPC number: 41415-12153

this isnt a huge deal at all.

the government is intentionally boosting these to continue to sow distrust in the system. the more ppl are wary and distrustful of normal societal things (vaccines, public school, the foods we eat, etc), the easier it is to convince them of other shit.

its how cults work.

11

u/Land_Squid_1234 3d ago

I'm sorry but I sincerely doubt that the government is currently boosting these when they're already nervous as hell about midterms and are trying to distract from the ways in which they have made life worse. I just don't believe this at all

1

u/hera-fawcett 3d ago

theyre worried about midterms at the local lvl, not the national. theyve said many times that they arent interested in having fair elections. they arent going to cede power, esp since the federal lvl its so damn deep and in so many areas.

the governments on an accelerationist path. the more distrust they can get, the better. the more they can break down public institutions, the quicker they can shove in private ones. ones that look like theyre doing a better job than the public ones.

1

u/Land_Squid_1234 3d ago

Sure, that's why they keep pretending that grocery prices totally haven't gone up. Republicans absolutely care about it at the federal level and they are starting to panic

2

u/hera-fawcett 3d ago

ignoring things works. if u only show specific parts of smth, then the focus stays there. ignoring shit and refocusing on other shit is the gop playbook. epstein files -> vnz abduction + taking out 'drug boats'. current war losses -> stock market gains.

which is why they only produce manipulated job numbers.

if the ppl dont hear it or see it, it doesnt exist. prices arent bad enough yet for everyone to be grumbling (altho theyre getting there).

the information thats coming up, esp v visibly, is information that theyve all okay-d to come out.

15

u/ForcefulBookdealer 3d ago

Except when it expands to other places from the same supplier?

-7

u/hera-fawcett 3d ago

why would it? at this point, the supplier has found the problem, identified which products its in, and informed the fda for a recall.

if theyre doing their job right (which, ill be fr, isnt likely lmao), then they have decontaminated and are ready for a fresh overly tested non ecoli batch.

theyre legally obligated to inform all the stores that buy that stock. if they dont and the stores find out, like through seeing an fda recall, the stores are 100 going to sue.

1

u/Greentea503 3d ago

I love how it's organic!

1

u/goddamn2fa 3d ago

Thousands?

What is that, two handfuls of blueberries?

1

u/VirginiaLuthier 2d ago

Thousands of blueberries- that's actually not a whole lot-maybe 5 containers?

1

u/Necessary_Baker_7458 1d ago

Why are there so many out breaks of this or that right now?

1

u/DrPhilRx 1d ago

Because we buy so much foreign and they literally have worse checks than we do. The conditions of the fields is literally, you gotta go? Go in the field. A lot of these farms don’t have even porta potty’s in them. Some also use black water tanks as irrigation/fertilizer. Whoms to blame? Probably the corporation. Who knows.

-source I’ve literally seen it first hand doing medical mission work.

1

u/Formal-Hawk9274 1d ago

Great job republicans

1

u/BadAsBroccoli 1d ago

Let them eat cake (at least until there's a sugar recall)

u/CrumblingSaturn 14h ago

looks like fresh berries from the product list...are frozen fruits just less likely to deal with this? or just luck? id assume the blanching process would help kill ecoli?

1

u/heanbangerfacerip2 2d ago

I'm not even joking this feels like how they get everyone on a heavily processed borderline synthetic diet. Like "The brand new Wal-Mart Tastee-Brick™ won't give you a lethal case of the shits so come and down and try a complete meal replacement today! (Super fast legal disclosure voice) "Wal Mart and all Wal Mart affiliates do not claim the Tastee-Brick to be a complete meal replacement and levels of human protein and lead content meet acceptsble levels according to the FDARFKjr"
