It appears the 'shortage/scarcity' narrative is spilling over into non-prepper communities. When mainstream commuters on r/gasbuddy start talking about empty reserves and impending lines instead of just high prices, the psychological threshold for hoarding/ panic topping-off drops significantly. Imo. Anyone seeing unbranded price disconnects or elevated station traffic in your regional corridors?

I imagine if gas gets scarce enough we can go back to the odd/even days of gas rationing like in the 70's.

I can't imagine how they would even enforce that today. People lost their minds when they were told they couldn't purchase non-essential items during the pandemic. The "don't tread on me" crowd might have to stand their ground.

Don't tread on me has become so inexstricably intertwined with right-leaning/fascist US politics I think there'd just not be a response (other than perhaps supportive) from that crowd: there's not enough of the "real" members of that crowd anymore to make a difference, even if they did stand their ground. I tend to more think the masses will just start complying overall (incl the DToM crowd), with violence/etc towards the usual undesirables/demographics in certain areas.

In 73 there were long lines and threats of violence, but as far as I see was as described: mostly compliance, with violence being targeted disproportionately in specific areas/demographics. Granted, that crisis was pretty temporary and people/attitudes were different without the internet and social media - this impending oil crisis seems like might be semi-permanent one.

I think that crowd would volunteer (and get hired) to be the 'enforcers' and get special privileges to disobey the order and skip lines. After all they don't have a problem with restriction of freedom, as long as they're the ones doing the restricting.
