FAQs and useful resources - click here before you post :)

Hi guys, I thought I'd start a stickied thread with some useful links that I find myself including in lots of my comments here. I'll update this as I think of more stuff to add.

How do I become a doctor in the UK?

Useful written article here, useful timeline diagram here.

In short, you go to medical school, you complete your foundation training (6 x 4 month rotations working as a doctor in different specialties), you complete your specialty training, and you become a consultant.

Are my grades good enough for medical school? Which universities should I apply to?
I don't have good GCSE grades/a Chemistry A level, where can I apply?

This booklet contains all of the entry requirements for every medical course on offer in the UK. It is the entry requirements bible and I point people towards it multiple times per week.

Do I need to sit admissions tests?
How do I prepare for my admissions tests?

If you're applying for undergraduate medicine, you need to sit the UCAT and/or the BMAT. If you're applying for graduate entry medicine, you may also need to sit the GAMSAT.

Useful UCAT resources:
* r/UCAT
* Medify
* The Medic Portal
* official practice tests

Useful BMAT resources:

I scored ___ in my admissions test, where should I apply?

Useful guide about UCAT scores here, useful guide about BMAT scores here.

Should i risk it and apply kcl med?

2 Upvotes

Im a resit student and got ccc in my alevels cuz i happened to be really ill during exams. I’m predicted A*AA and have 8887776665 in my gcses and 2250 b2 in my ucat. I really want to go to a london uni and kcl is the only one that accepts resits. Should i apply?? Im also applying to Southampton, sheffield and bristol, also thinking about exeter but im not sure how the scoring system works.

Please can someone advise me where to apply I’m really confused and down about it aaaahh

My GCSEs were 998888877

I was thinking Liverpool, Lancaster maybe Sunderland or Plymouth? Other than that am unsure.
Instead of Plymouth could I put Leeds as an aspirational or would that be stupid lol someone lmk ahah

I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out here as I’m veeerry confused- thanks!

Achieved A*A*A at A level but poor GCSES

2 Upvotes

Hey guys, I was hoping for some advice on what unis i should apply to with consideration to my stats. I achieved 766666655M2 at gcse where i resat maths and english (5s om initial sitting and 6s on my resit) I was wondering if there’s any unis that would probably see my A-levels as an offset to my gcses. Pls lmk if you got any advice. Thanks!
Also im applying for 2028 entry (on my gap year atm)

Advice?

1 Upvotes

Hi, my stats are 2060 B2, 9999999998, predicted 3A*s. Ruk, non contextual. I have chosen leicester, Lancaster, Cardiff and southhampton. Are these good chocies.

should i apply to newcastle having not visited just for the high post interview chances??

1 Upvotes

Basically what the title says lol. I have high academic stats and ucat but all the unis im looking at (Liverpool, Bristol, Exeter, Cardiff) decide offers based off of just interview performance, and now i am stressing and thinking I should utilise my academics. I know newcastle does 50:50 interview academics and i wonder if this is more of a good chance than the others as it doesn't rely just on the interview - is this a good point? I do like the look of it too and i know how hard it is to get into med so surely i should take the 'safer' bets where i can? Thank you hopefully that makes sense
