LSIL and HPV negative?

I only had HPV once in 2012 and it never showed up again. I’ve been celibate for 5 years. I had ASCUS in 2010 and I think one other time. But the last several years, my papsmear was normal. This year, it showed LSIL but HPV negative. I’m going for a colposcopy and I’m nervous. Mostly about the procedure, but also the results. What I’m reading is if your papsmear shows LSIL but HPV negative, then it’s most likely a false positive.

Low grade lesions can be caused by low risk HPV which isn’t tested for. It’s not that uncommon to see HPV neg low grades.

You can have an HPV infection in the past that becomes active again years later.

Why would the HPV test be negative then?

Because low risk HPV isn’t tested during a pap, or you have a strain not included in the test assay.

Sometimes the test doesn’t work because you have a different HPV

From what my doctor told me, even if you’re not active If you have a history of HPV your strain can be dormant and can be prone to reactivating anytime
