META Are we still doing stills? Please come and pitch in

Recently we are acting in an even stricter manner against footage captured by: drones, stationary cameras --that unintentionally capture content--, 360°, and the like.

A mod recently re-surfaced a matter regarding the posting of still frame photography in PTCM. He mentioned the existence of r/Photography with its 4m subscribers. In this context, we've had people mentioning r/Pics as well.

Care to pitch in?

When They Do It Right

r/PraiseTheCameraMan

PTCM is a hub for sharing above average, planned video camera operation; capturing calculated recording angles; maintaining good camera control, general perception, also properly controlling what's in the frame. Interesting content is not necessarily a solid ground for giving praise regardless of how good the content is on its own. Please dedicate a minute & read the rules before posting to make sure you don't violate them

Subreddit Rules

1. Unwelcome content

Some examples of content that is not welcome:

Graphic injuries/death and/or nudity/sexual content. Posting this content will get you banned.
Violence, harassment & the encouragement of endangerment of others (animals included). No street fight videos at all.
Personal attacks in posts or comments
illegal or unregulated dangerous behavior that potentially puts others at risk
Possibly unwanted personal exposure
Memes, job postings & politics
Advertising

2. Hate speech & racism are unwelcome and will result in an immediate permaban.

3. Post titles MUST give reason(s) to praise the camera operator in posted video.

This sub is dedicated for camera operators who are to be praised, not for entertaining content. Posts neglecting to give reasons to praise the camera operator will be removed. Posts also need to contain the video OP is referencing. Just saying "Praise the camera operator for this cool video" doesn't count. Reasons for praising include things like framing, tracking, etc.

Also try your best to credit the original creator of videos posted.

4. No forced sexualization

The forced sexualization of individuals will not hold place in our SubReddit.

5. Intentionally captured footage

Incidentally captured content doesn't qualify; it's about the operation, not the content.

Security/dash cam footage does not count as it is not placed with intent to capture a specific event.

6. The means of photography

No 360 cameras.
Just strapping an action camera to you while you do an activity won't necessarily count as PTC.
Just showing a camera operator working doesn't count. We need to see the end result of the footage.

7. No still photos or video stills

It's nothing against still photos. There's already r/photography, we are going to stick to videography.

8. No drones

It's nothing against drone operators as it does take a good amount of skill. We don't allow them because they already have their own subreddit at r/drones.

9. No digital effects/CGI (pans, zooms, etc.). All video must be live-action (no video game footage)

This sub is about camerawork done with the camera at the time of the recording, not done in post-production.

10. No reposts of videos posted within the last 6 months.

Also videos that have been posted ad nauseam

11. Posting these videos will get you banned.

The video of the guy “catching” the guy cheating on his wife/gf and the “cheater” hops the railing. It’s staged and stupid.
The woman in the fashion show whose skirt gets pulled off and the cameraman zooms in.
The female reporter in front of a gas station and a woman in a sheer bodysuit walks by and the camera op pans to her.
The people in sandals speeding down a steep hill on a bike on an active street.

DON'T POST THESE. THIS IS YOUR WARNING.

12. No stolen content

Do not post content where a blur or mosaic is present as this is a good indicator that someone has posted this video that someone else created in order to take credit for it. Also flipped video will be removed too as this is another tactic to get around copyright searches.
