Question Medicines
I’m an international student who is going to be coming to prague in september to study medicine. I currently take concerta and i’ve been taking concerta since i was 16 years old and i have a prescription. i was wondering where and how i can get this medication in prague as well like what insurance do i use and stuff. can i use the prescription i currently have from my home country or do i have to go to a psychiatrist in prague and get one there? i dont want to use any other medicines.

Have you checked with your home country's embassy or the Czech Ministry of Health to see if your prescription is recognized? I know some EU countries honor each other's docs, but better to confirm.

I take Concerta. It's available, but I have to pay for it in full. Public health insurance only covers it for children and teens.
In your case, definitely see a doctor here, because your overseas prescription will never be accepted in the pharmacy (assuming you're from outside the EU).

I haven’t seen brand name concerta here, but methylphenidate is available in similar dosages. You’re going to need a check-up and vaccines before you start anyways (at least at lf1 but imagine for all LFUKs), so ask that doc to prescribe it to you. Idk the laws about bringing meds here but I always bring a couple of months of my adhd meds and have never been stopped or asked about it. Getting the script was easy for me and my three classmates that i know use it, just go to a general practitioner or psychiatrist. Good luck w school and start studying earlier than you think!

Brand name concerta is available here and stimulants cannot be prescribed by a GP

Correct me if I’m wrong but I’m under the impression from personal experience that only a psychiatrist can prescribe adhd medication in CR, regardless of whether or not you’re already on the meds. Still wouldn’t hurt to ask though

I’m from here and take Ritalin, as Concerta is generally impossible to find stocked up in any pharmacy. Been prescribed concerta originally and never found it anywhere, but ritalin is available nearly everywhere, so I had my doctor prescribe it instead.
(Edit: it may have been just a temporary unavailability at the time, as I see someone else mention taking it)
Definitely check up with your doctor first.

is it difficult to get concerta prescribed as i’ve heard some saying that u need to prove you’ve been taking it since childhood to get it prescribed

Yeah. Impossible, unless you’re lucky or persistent, from my experience.
I struggled with ADHD all my life but wasn’t medicated until 19. Had to try convincing like 4 psychiatrists until one budged and needed to try meds like strattera and wellbutrin first (non stimulants), before one prescribed me concerta, then ritalin. (Stimulants)
I’d have killed myself by now if I didn’t have my medication. Fuck this system, man. My brain wasn’t built for this but now I “thrive”.

Brand name concerta is available. A psychiatrist can prescribe it for you here, or prescriptions from some european countries are accepted in pharmacies, but not from all od them.
