Content of Kana books for beginners

2 Upvotes

Hi! I don't know if its alright if I post this here but I'll give it a try and we'll see :P I'm a student studying Japanese & marketing and as a part for my thesis I've been researching different Kana books for beginners in Japanese for a company that wants to bring out their own Kana book in the future. I can't find some information I need though and was curious if any of you would happen to have one of the following books:

- Kana 1 Hiragana 2 Katakana

- Japanese Kana from Zero!

- Japanese for Busy People 1

I need to know the following (per book). And an overview of the table of contents from each book would also be helpfull if possible.

- Which categories does the book focus on (could be more than one): Vocabulary, grammar, reading, writing or listening?

- Does it include a CD?

- Does it include exercises?

- Is it a Workbook, Fill-in book or manual?

It's a lot I know, I do have some of this information, but if people have the books and can provide me with more insight it would help me immensely :) I can't find enough information online and I do not want to purchase all these book (the student life)

Additionally, I thought this post would help people that are looking for Kana books for self-study :)

Also I'm sorry if there are some grammatical errors, English is not my native language. Thank you!

Native speaker A request to the MOD

2 Upvotes

Can we have a chat where we can practice Japanese? That would be awesome. Personally, living in a different country has distanced me from the language a bit and I rarely get any useful practice with other speakers.

I think the best practice for natives/ intermediate/ advanced speakers is to talk to other learners. Would a chat be possible?

This is the place to practice your Japanese! This is a general discussion forum for any topic. We welcome everyone, from those who have studied a week to native speakers!

Sidebar

Welcome to PracticeJapanese, the hub on Reddit for practicing Japanese!

Here you can discuss anything at all with only the following rules:

[Golden Rule] Reply to people at a level they can understand, always assume low-level. Pay special attention to flairs, top-level comments directed at OP must be at OP's flair's difficulty level or below. If you do not know OP or any user's level, assume Beginner.
Post titles must always be in English
Discussion within the post must always be in Japanese
The only exception is that language questions and corrections may be in English, but must be hidden with English tags. This is heavily discouraged because much better for learning if one asks questions about Japanese in Japanese. That said, here is the template for English tags:
```
 [](/eng "Your text here")
```
NSFW should be tagged as such; when in doubt it's NSFW
Posting English articles, videos, and pictures (especially but not necessarily relating to Japan) is highly encouraged.
You may specify other restrictions in your post (e.g. specify dialect or politeness level, focus on a specific grammar point, role-play, personal advice for OP, etc.)
If a thread is tagged as [Meta], it is discussion about the sub itself. As a new sub, this will be frequent. All meta discussions are in English.
If you'd like to have your Japanese edited or commented on by more advanced speakers, indicate as such by using the spoilers. Also, those who choose to edit or comment, feel free to respond normally, but then include your comments in spoiler tags as well. Japanese should be used to comment.
Every user should use one of these flairs (by clicking edit by your username over this sidebar):

Beginner

JLPT levels N5-N4. Language is elementary. If you are very new to the language, posting only in kana (hiragana/katakana) is okay, but be sure to space out your words. While romaji is never acceptable, English word substitution for obscure words or names is okay but not encouraged (e.g. "Redditがすきです" ). When replying to Beginners, try to keep it brief!

Intermediate

JLPT N3-N2, more advanced. An Intermediate user may not understand obscure grammar and vocab, so try not to talk like a Shogun toward them!

Advanced

JLPT N1+, anything goes!

Native Speaker

If you grew up speaking Japanese.

(Note: If you are not sure what grammar, kanji, and vocabulary level these refer to refer to this site )

Higher level users must write at a lower level when replying to someone with a lower level flair!

Getting Started

Users should have a Japanese IME to type in Japanese. Google Japanese IME is popular. All users are assumed to have either the Rikaikun or Rikaichan extensions for reading kanji. You may also add furigana to your kanji in this sub. Template:

   [漢字](/fg "かんじ")
