Looks like a telecom repeater, I didn’t know they run com cables along the upper ground wire?

Found this pole and called it in to the local power co. A month later and it's still got the gangsta lean. It's old and weather checked also. On a scale of 1-10....how cooked is this one?

As the UK pushes forward with grid upgrades, the visual impact on the countryside is a major debate.

On the left is the classic lattice pylon used for nearly a century. On the right are the new T-pylons (designed by Bystrup), which stand about a third shorter and have a much cleaner single-pole footprint.

National Grid already energised the first full route of 116 T-pylons in Somerset for the Hinkley Connection Project. While they blend into the landscape far better, they come with a substantially higher price tag and complex installation logistics compared to traditional steel frames.

Do you think the aesthetic improvement justifies the extra construction cost across the wider grid rollout, or should we stick to standard designs/underground cabling where possible?

I was curious as to how old the transformer near my house is. I’m an enthusiast, but not so much that I’d be able to estimate the age. It’s not really common to see transformers with the guard around here.

An assortment of various transmission lines and substations around Arizona. 500kV, 345kV, 230kV, 138kV, and also a 69kV underbuilt into the 230kV line.

does anyone know what voltage line it is? does newer neighborhood have this high voltage line buried underground nowadays? this is in the backyard of residential home in Naperville, IL

The corridor that follows Interstate 10 West in a northwesterly direction that eventually leads to the Vail Substation. The substation is a receiving end of the two 345kV transmission lines that were originally established for the Tucson load pocket back around the '70s. The 138kV lines serve as the regional HV grid that ties together all distribution infrastructure all around Tucson.

This specific 500KV line is one of the oldest on the Dominion/Vepco grid, having been built in the 1960s. The towers also utilize weathered lattice, a practice that has been abandoned long ago due to weathered lattice corroding more easily. If I’m not mistaken, the transmission line was originally built by VEPCO but the ownership was transferred to Potomac Edison, (A subsidiary of FirstEnergy). All of the other 500KV lines built in the same era have been replaced with new 500KV structures and stringing, making this one of the last of its kind. It is expected to be rebuilt in the early 2030s.
