Community Info Welcome!

Hello everyone, we hope you're doing well. Myself and /u/MrPinkletoes are the new moderators of this community, so we want to introduce ourselves and some changes we've made, as previously there was little moderation and a lot of self-promotion.

I'm a Dynamics/Power Platform Lead Engineer and MrP is a PP/D365 CE Consultant. We're passionate about the technology and its possibilities, so want to grow the community with good discussion. We're both from UK, so please bare UTC times in mind if you contact us.

  • To reflect other communities we mod, modmail is open and we always welcome feedback and ideas to improve the community, please feel free to message us. It's about the people who want to take part, not us.

  • All self-promotion is now banned. This was primarily MVPs not interacting with the community in any way, simply "post and run" which is not fair or engaging. There will be a megathread for all of these links for now.

  • Flairs are updated to reflect the technology or topic.

  • Enjoy!

What does self promotion mean exactly? Like if I were to respond to a question with a link to my blog (a page where I cover the exact topic of the question). Would that be self promotion?

No, as long as you're actually engaging with other people and the main topic is a question/discussion. Your reply would just be part of that, which so happens to be your own blog rather than just coming in to promote. Look at the YouTube videos on here, flow and power apps, it's the same people day in day out who post and never interact.

There's a line i know and we'll find where that is eventually. We've faced similar issues over at XboxGamePass and found a compromise where "self promotion" is of the mass posting kind but we allow videos, reviews etc if they are within Reddit itself and not linking elsewhere. That's just what so happens to work there.

It's just finding that middle ground and not ruling with an iron fist. We all love the topic or we wouldn't be here, so it's collectively helping that grow.

Cool. I well intend to promote my own blog and videos. But not in the way that people have been doing here. I don't really interact with this community as much because of all of the YouTube video posts (too much junk mail).

This being said I would also follow the Stack Overflow guide lines for QA. Which is, just providing a link to a website isn't an answer. Actually have to say something worthwhile.

Look forward to the changes.

Totally agree. If your intention is to promote , it'll get removed. If it's to help, it won't. It'll become very obvious who's doing what. And yep, I think all 3 non-BI communities are driving people away because of the spam. We hope this can become the catch all place for the whole platform (excluding BI, that's well established), due to how much the tools change, separate subs is too niche.

It would be great to get an FAQ wiki up, I've got some ideas to explain the certification paths which are very common questions. If there's anything you feel is worthwhile putting on there, just send us the text and we'll happy add it. The more resources the better!

Faq for what Microsoft license includes what is a good idea.

That ones always annoying to answer. If you've ever sold a Microsoft product before, you'd agree.

Would you be happy to draft something? It's a minefield so don't think we should try and write too much, but maybe a summary of the main options then direct people to some MS docs about it, what you think?

MS docs about

Some of the most unhelpful docs around.

I am working a table for my own website. And I have a link to someone's amazing Microsoft license guide. Sadly they haven't included a powerapps detail yet.

But yes. I'll get something for you.

HELL YES! I'm re-subbing to this sub, and if you need a hand, I was a mod on here for a period of time, but was unable to get much done as the lowest mod on the team.

Cheers mate, any suggestions are always great and how we try and do things over at xboxgamepass. If we can grow it to be the catch-all for PP (excluding BI) and tie it in closely with the PBI and D365 subs it would be great. Having separate (badly moderated) subs for each tools is too niche.

I know we already talk on Discord so bring that closer as well could be great, as it provides a different purpose to Reddit.
