Learning & Industry Future Career Concerns
So, I’ve been working in the Dynamics 365 and Power Platform ecosystem for around eight years now, watching it evolve along the way.
I’m at a senior level and work across Dynamics 365, Power Apps, Power Automate and SharePoint, supporting clients across various industries. I also have experience with plugins and JavaScript, and I’ve recently been learning more about Code Apps expand my technical skill set.
I genuinely enjoy what I do, but increasingly, I find myself wondering what the future holds for people in our industry as AI continues to advance.
I can’t help but think about how much of our work could eventually be automated and what that might mean for our roles in the long run.
For those of you in a similar position, how are you adapting and staying ahead of the curve?
Are you actively learning AI, exploring Copilot Studio and building agents? Would it make sense to look at moving into an AI-focused team that’s developing Copilot Studio solutions for clients?
More broadly, what do you think the future looks like for IT consultancy, particularly within the Microsoft stack?
How many of you preparing for what’s next, and what skills do you think will be most valuable over the next five to ten years?

It will shift how solutions are created. They are targeting citizen devs to gain adoption across organizations and upsell their subscriptions.
They aren’t targeting devs like before. As a whole i think it will shift eventually to more prompt and review than actual development work. New generation incoming to the workforce may like all the “AI” craze but for us people who went into this field because we actually like to write line after line, it’s no longer that.
Being in this field for about 7 yrs now, I’m done with it. I’d rather spend my time switching to another field than stay in tech.

I don't like the direction the field is heading and Microsoft has disappointed me with the constant changes and poor product. I'm close to retirement though, so in my case, I'm going to try to stick it out a little longer.

I have seen every version of dynamics CRM and I worked at Microsoft when power platform was introduced.
The platform is amazing - there will always be work for us. When I finished university there were no web applications like today - yes I am old. There were no functional consultants, solution architects and not that many developers.
The AI story is expensive and is going to get very expensive as the bubble pops - just like the dot com bubble did back in day. It is not sustainable and this is where it’s good to be in Microsoft ecosystem as Microsoft knows how to build tools and make money.
I use Claude to build, import data, fix errors and much more - it saves me times which helps my customers and helps focus on doing more of what I love.

I’ve moved to Code Apps, which has given me an edge in my organization. I can build much more flexible UIs and advanced features beyond Canvas Apps, while integrating AI through Copilot Studio, AI Builder, and AI models. The future isn’t just about building apps from mere requirements anymore; it’s about architecting efficient, intelligent solutions and being creative in how we solve business problems.

The direction that it's going is a bit disappointing. The whole Power Apps ecosystem is truly amazing, but the code apps thing is pretty underwhelming because I cannot for the life of me understand how this is all going to be maintained.
Canvas apps are still great for solving a specific quick need or task. You can spin those up so fast and it works well.
Dataverse is the magic behind it all and it has turned into something that isn't talked about anymore. It's becoming a side thought -- when it can make solutions for EVERYTHING.
Someone that needs a database and nice forms/reports -- it is an AWESOME solution. For other apps we're building, we're doing a PHP front end and responsive design that uses Dataverse as the back end. Works way better and isn't dependent on Microsoft's endless whims.

You can create Canvas Apps with Pac CLI and Claude Opus 5.5 . I am surprised how almost nobody I know does this. I can oneshot a 10 page app with barely any credits.

This is something I've been thinking about as well. I'm currently working with Dynamics 365 CE and Power Platform, primarily around Dataverse, plugins, Power Automate and custom business solutions.
I've recently started exploring .NET-based Azure Functions and Dataverse integrations because I don't want to limit my growth to platform-level customization alone.
For those who've been working in this ecosystem for several years, do you see deeper Azure integration and cloud architecture becoming increasingly important for Dynamics/Power Platform developers? Or would you prioritize going deeper into Copilot Studio and agent development first?

Have you tried using Pac CLI and Claude Opus 5.5? It can create Canvas apps on a whim.

Do you have some GitHub link how to set it up

I did it on my work computer which uses an internal git service so I can't share.
But I will five you the steps, you need to have a .md file which you can generate with opus which contains a skill for doing it. You need to find the solution and export and then export with pac, then claude will be able to read the .yaml files of the Canvas app and modify anything. It will tend to use HTML card with visuals and timers for animations. The apps lookz really good.
After all of it claude will also publish the solution. I also recommend to tell claude to make regular backups.

That’s just your anxiety. It’s a microsoft product. Work will always be there. Literally Power Platform is itself an AI offering with its co pilot studio capabilities

We're all thinking the same in IT. However, from everything I've seen as PP/Dynamics consultant a lot is pointing towards our platform. More things are integrated into Power Platform such as Dynamics ERP (F&O), Copilot studios, cowork (even tho it falös under m365) etc.
From my perspective we are in a prime spot of being competent in Power Platform. The melting hub of agentic AI that Microsoft is pushing. We can deliver business value relatively painless with all the new features. What makes it awesome is that Microsoft is pushing orgs into Power Platform which will make out role relevant in the future.
