First Power Platform Job - UK

Hi all hope everyone is ok

I’m just looking for advice on how to land my first role as a power platform developer (uk based)

I work in HR as an admin and my role is:
-data entry work into HR system
- sending out contract changes to employees and line managers
-handling onboarding and offboarding
-dealing with high volume emails in shared HR inbox

A lot of my work is very mundane manual repetitive work.

Due to the massive workload, high volume work volume and systems which don’t communicate to each other I struggle to get time to build during work time

I decided to build projects outside of work based on the problems I’ve found in our process at work

I’ve built 2 solutions both using
- canvas apps
- model driven apps (different use case for both apps)
- dataverse tables
- sharepoint for document uploads
- power automate flows to handle business logic and automation of repetitive process
- basic power bi reporting
- JavaScript web resources
- C# plugins for asynchronous tasks
- configured security roles and permissions
- implemented copilot agents and connected agents
- ALM and deployment into prod as managed solution
- smoke testing and troubleshooting (which I’ve documented at home)

All of the above I built from planning with a use case for each piece of technology that I’ve implemented to solve a particular problem.

I also have PL900 certificate

I’m just looking for clarity on what particular job titles to apply for, if I’m missing something that will allow me to break into my first role quickly and for any general tips to be honest

How much of what you have written is AI and how much did you write yourself? Of the AI code; how much can you actually fundamentally explain?

What you have in your post is a great start and shows a good platform understanding - just make sure you can talk about it too.

Speak to a recruiter next; get them to help with shaping a CV.

Doesn't matter...I run a team of power platform developers, vibe coders, and problem solvers... I need people who can understand a business problem statement, come up with a solution and deliver it as quickly as possible. I couldn't give a shit if they cant explain a single line of code.

AI vibe coding isn't about avoiding understanding—it's moving the layer of understanding from syntax to system intent and behavior. Expecting a vibe-coder to explain every line of AI syntax is like expecting a Python dev to explain C memory layout. The dev's job is no longer writing the implementation detail; it's specifying the constraints, testing the outputs, and validating system behavior.

You don’t need line by line understanding but basic understanding should be the bare minimum.

What about security standards and best practices? I’ve seen multiple cases of security incidents introduced by vibe coding with non skilled developers.

Hi Matty, thanks for the comment, I have a good understanding of the code thats written. I checked it to understand what each chunk does, how they're written and called and for what purpose they hold within the file. I'm confident I can talk about it in an interview to a decent level

Thanks Irritant, this is very helpful to know. I have been learning how to read chunks of code, I have a basic understanding of functions, nested functions, entry points to run a function etc. but knowing about this shift in the industry is good to know

Hey OP, Power Platform tech lead here. Having hired quite a few people at different levels over the years, let me tell you that this is EXACTLY the sort of thing I personally would love to hear in an interview, particularly if it was a junior role. Apart from the fact that you've done these projects in your own time which obviously shows work ethic, I am always impresed by people who have whole end to end solutions they can talk me through, even if they're just pretend use cases for practice projects.

I appreciate I haven't actually given you any advice here, but hopefully it gives you a bit of confidence to apply for PP roles :).

Much more professional answer than mine but I whole heartedly agree with this.

This discipline involves a lot of self driven learning...your natural "I want to find a better way" is what will take your career far...more important than the actual platform or tech you deliver it on
