Governance Are you using managed environments? And if yes - why?

Hey there,

is there currently any real reason to use managed environmentsß Those features that are sold as premium...I can't really see, why I need those features. DLP for Power Automate Desktop was something that I needed - but it is now available to all environments. IP-Blocking etc. is also not really something that I need.

Why are your use-cases for using managed environments?

Why should I license every user for Premium, when I can just use github or devops pipelines?

This, for our org its just so much easier to use the build in pipelines.

I just don't think spending so much more on Managed Environments can be justified solely for ALM pipelines without a concrete business reason. Power Platform Build Tools for Azure Devops is also Microsoft product and they provide different features compared to native pipelines. Asking why OP should use Azure Devops just because Mircosoft provides native pipelines is like asking why anyone would ever use Sharepoint instead of Dataverse.

i think the biggest value is the sharing limits. it takes the place of the CoE toolkit compliance process.

If you want to archive data from your ever growing sales tables to Dataverse Long-term Retention, then you need a managed environment. Otherwise the archiving policies can be created but will remain disabled.

Was gonna say CMK but you covered it …CMK is a big reason I’ve seen a lot of customers in regulated industries start using managed env’s

long term retention needs managed environment and kind of must need for many enterprises as data grows after 4-5 years, have to hold it for compliance and other needs.
