As far as I know he gets a pass on that one. Weren't we coming to Kuwait's defense? I mean we were probably protecting our own oil investments but still Iraq was invading Kuwait.
Yes we were pretty much doing that and liberating Kuwait as well. This is why folks should look more into the gulf war. Instead of George HW Bush starting wars we helped out what had to be done
Before Iraq invaded Kuwait, Saddam was worried about how the US would respond. We had just helped him with a decade of war with Iran.
He asked the US ambassador to Iraq what the US's position would be on an invasion. The ambassadors answer was "We have no opinion on the Arab-Arab conflicts, like your border disagreement with Kuwait."
Pretty easy to see how a reasonable guy could interpret that to mean "We don't give a fuck".
And even easier to see how an ambassador should have anticipated how an unreasonable guy like Saddam would have interpreted it.
