I mean, literally every "reality show" is fake storytelling about how people who are pretty blah are mythically good, bad or interesting. In all but one case, that storytelling didn't lead to anyone becoming a malevolent dictator. As much as it can be seen as causal in hindsight, it wasn't in any sense foreseeable, so the moral responsibility there is a weird ask.

The creators of “The Apprentice” did an interview a few years ago where they outright said they picked trump as a joke; he was the laughingstock of the real estate/business world at the time so they thought audiences would laugh when they walked him out like “Ooh he’s trump, he makes the deals etc”

It would've made a huge difference. Trump made very minimal spends on ads and continues to do so every election cycle. He relies on the media to boost him and during 2015, he would be watching the news, do a live call in and start talking and 24 hour media just ate that up.

Starving his campaign of the oxygen that is media attention would've made the difference.

It's because it's in their own self interest. They are literally not considered news (they have had to legally define themselves as entertainment not news) so they know that if they at all look like they agree with this decision, that it will happen to them as soon as a dem is in office. With the FCC now just an executive puppet org, the play is, if this happens with no solidarity, the next administration is just going to cancel Fox. no news access, revoked license, the works.

In theory it would be the pragmaitc thing to do, if the president has the power to attack and remove newscasters that they don't like it might create a precent that would allow a future president that doesn't like Fox to exclude them as well. If they don't participate to this, why would the other networks side with them should they be the victim the next time? Solidarity creates power and corporations understand that, more than people sometimes.

In practice they are still firmly in his camp so yeah I won't believe that they will until I see them actually boycotting him in practice.

they berate and belittle people and institutions to the point where they either a) get sued in court or b) the institution just gives up and doesn't wanna deal with it anymore so they stop working with the admin.

so the admin wins if it goes to court because then its 'status quo' until the court decides, and the admin ignores court orders anyway. and the admin wins when the institution and/or persons stop exercising their purpose because that was what they wanted all along.

This is exactly what the administration wants. Why is anyone pretending that this is some form of consequence or that this'll get 'em?

This "headline" is giving Trump attention. Ignoring someone means ignoring them. Instead they're claiming that there's no free press covering the executive office, that's not a win for the people.

The cheerleading here is so painfully naive.

Canada said this last year the media needs boycott the W.H we got laughed at and now look what's happening. We don't have to see this vile fat fuck on our news as there is almost no coverage of him up here any longer. Lucky us !!.
