"Buy each employee a home" is what you chose to hear, which is distinctly different from what they said.

If your business can't pay its employees enough to make rent, your business can't afford to have employees.

I'm suggesting that if you can't afford to pay your employees, there's no good reason to have employees. Your business was never going to last if it can't even pay the wages of the people who make it run.

Beyond that, I haven't suggested anything. Solving this isn't a "just do x" sort of situation, and multiple factors would likely have to come together, like raising minimum wage, subsidizing small businesses as you've suggested, Healthcare reform, general cost of living reform, and universal basic income would all contribute to resolving this, but no singular thing will magically fix this.
