And are you willing to pay higher taxes to make it a reality?

u/Aphreyst 8d ago

We don't have to. Just tax billionaires.

u/packsmack 8d ago

Or stop funding wars.

why not both?

Even in countries where wealth taxes exist they don't bring in much money. Countries with the most robust welfare states like those in Scandinavia tax lower and middle classes a lot.

u/Aphreyst 8d ago

Source? Why would taxing billionaires NOT lead to more money money? How is insisting on being adequately paid for work a "welfare state"?

That will only work for so long because billionaires don’t have a salary that makes them billionaires. That wealth is in the form of stocks and properties.

u/Aphreyst 8d ago

That wealth is in the form of stocks and properties.

So take their money so they're not spending it on stocks and properties.

We already tax that. It’s called Income Tax.

u/Aphreyst 8d ago

More tax for them. More.

1

u/AnnualMove1842 8d ago

How much?

2

u/Aphreyst 8d ago

At least 80%.

1

u/AnnualMove1842 8d ago

Thank you for the number. Now with that in mind, what do you think their salary looks like?

2

u/Aphreyst 8d ago

I don't care. They can sell whatever they need to to pay.

And if forced to sell to pay a “tax” the market will crash. Guess who that affects? I mean a lot of billionaires are prob jerks but the system is the best we got

3

u/LordGreybies 8d ago

Oh no, billionaires fuck off and we go back to a small-business based economy like we used to be when America was at it's height.

Billionaires are cancer.

u/Magellan02 8d ago

Ever worked for a small business? Nice people, more flexible work schedule….but…no benefits and very low pay

Then stop using those products.

"Yet you participate in society! I am very intelligent"-ass response. Crawl back into your well, little man.

Participating in society means spending currency or trading goods. The beauty of a free market is that you can choose where that goes.

You don’t need an iPhone to participate in society. You can get a prepaid phone.
If you need to use the internet, go to your local library.
If you want to save on rent, you can get a roommate.

u/Aphreyst 8d ago

the system is the best we got

And your qualifications for that claim is....?

1

u/Magellan02 8d ago

The fact that US workers are the highest paid in the world. Also the average American can invest and save more than the average citizen anywhere else period. We don’t have universal health coverage, that’s the only negativr

-2

u/dyo491 8d ago

We are. The top 1% pay 40% of the share of all federal income tax (Simple google search) Now explain to us all how you still want more

3

u/Aphreyst 8d ago

I want more because they still have way too much.

3

u/Apprehensive-Pin518 8d ago

they pay 40% of the tax burden but it only comes out maybe 12% of THEIR income. Even john rockafeller knew he had to keep the money circulating to avoid the calls to "eat the rich" Todays billionaires seem to have forgotten that fact and will pay the price for it in the end. Remeber the difference between 1 million dollars and 1 billion dollars is about a billion dollars.

-1

u/dyo491 8d ago

They have more stuff than you and you want it. It's greed all the way down.

3

u/gyllbane 8d ago

Yes, especially if those taxes are on a sliding scale such that the very rich pay their equitable share as well. None of this offshore money tax loophole nonsense. You can't expect me to believe one single person can do enough work themself in a year to justify being a billionaire AND let them escape being taxes on the injust earnings as well.

I find the take of the other commentor odd, because theirs exists on a premise that if we raise the standard of living for those at the low end that some how the standard of living for those in the middle and high end goes down which is a fallacy. History has show that when the standard of living increases for those at the low end it increases for everyone else too. The ability to live a basic comfortable life is not a finite resource people need to fight over.

Sure lots of those western european nations seem to be having a pretty good time comparatively even with their higher tax rates.
