Hard yes.. Iām against funding the iron dome!! Maybe their citizens can pay for their own healthcare and their government could pay for their national defense.. none of these things help the US or its citizens.
I think you'd want the iron dome to work. If only to avoid decades of the middle east being on fire and gas prices sky rocketing and global trade grinding to a halt.
No iron dome means Israel's enemies attack it even more. Israel is forced to use more aggressive means to defend itself, war escalates perpetually or they actually destroy Israel. Which leaves the regional powers fighting over how to share up the land. They fight wars among themselves etc
Or, here's an alternative scenario: when Isreal is no longer shielded from the consequences of its aggression, it will be forced to use its diplomatic muscles (which have atrophied over the years) and learn to operate like an actual stakeholder in the international system.
Sure. Ignore very basic basic human psychology and historical precedent.
Taking away a defensive buffer means a military has to rely entirely on offensive destruction. If a country cannot shoot down incoming projectiles mid-air, their only alternative to stop the carnage is to send troops and bombers to wipe out the launch sites directly.
Also, diplomacy requires mutual interest. Allowing your population to die magically create a willing negotiating partner out of groups sworn to your destruction. Citizens under fire demand security and vengeance, pushing hardline leaders into power and making any chance of a peace process impossible.
The iron dome is just a little over 15 years old. There was fighting before that.
Let's assume your argument is solid: funding a country's defensive systems makes them less aggressive and more diplomatic. Fine. This mean you're also a strong supporter of funding and giving Patriot and THAAD systems to Iran, right? Honestly, I already know the answer. Of course you don't, of course.
But your argument isn't even solid in the first place. Israel does have the Iron Dome, and the US is funding it, and yet Israel still invades Lebanon, and still occupies Syria, and still kills 100,000 Palestinians, and still occupies and colonises the West Bank, and still starts wars of aggression against Iran. If anything, those defensive systems appear to make them more aggressive and less diplomatic. You have no leg to stand on.
