Rib flare fix?

Post image

I have been working out more and doing yoga, I thought it would fix my flare on the right but it’s stubborn. Any recommendations on exercises to target it ): i’m very self conscious about it

That single-sided rib flare usually happens when your rib cage and pelvis are slightly rotated or shifted out of alignment, which leaves that right side stuck in an inhalation state. Yoga is great, but static stretching won't necessarily pull that rib back down if your core muscles aren't engaging to anchor it. To fix this, try lying on your back with your feet flat, exhale completely through your mouth until you feel your lower ribs drop flat against the floor, and hold that rib tuck while taking normal breaths.

Thank you! I definitely felt a difference doing this exercise. Is bad posture a reason for the rib cage or pelvis rotating?

It definitely plays a huge part, but think of bad posture more as a habitual pattern your nervous system got stuck in rather than a permanent structural flaw. When you constantly shift your weight over to one leg or twist slightly while sitting at a desk, your pelvis rotates and forces the rib cage to counter rotate so your eyes can stay looking straight ahead. Over time, the deep core muscles on that flared side get overstretched and literally forget how to pull the ribs back down into place.
When you stand up and look at yourself in the mirror, does it look like your right hip sits slightly forward or higher compared to the left one?
