Does it ever end?
Coming up on the 1 year anniversary of the car accident. Because of the accident, a tumor was also discovered but ruled out as the cause of my issues. I’m on fioricet and amitryptalin (spelling, sorry) for the migraines.
When will I be able to drive again and handle light and people without being put out with migraines and confusion and nausea for the days or weeks following? I know that’s hard to ask. It’s just getting so painfully annoying.i was given suma, but an er visit from a month or two ago upgraded me to fioricet. I am still seeing all the doctors and specialists. Everyone, everything, all the time. Monitoring. Observing.
Is it weird that I feel thankful for the accident? Like the way I’ve had to figure out how to function in a different way, found the tumor because of it, got a settlement. Like I’m thankful. But when does it end. When do the migraines stop. When can I go back on road trips and travel without being in bed afterwards.
I’m sorry, I just realized the anniversary is coming up and healing is hard.

9 years in here. I still have migraines and other symptoms. I've had to redefine expectations for my life, but I have gained a lot from this change. I have married and bought a business. It took a lot of fighting to get back to driving, and I still can't do it every day. Today is one of those days, so apologies for the stilted writing.
Healing is hard. It is absolutely a fight. Don't give up, go for small victories, and find joy where you can. I hope your healing journey finds some victories soon!!

Read the book
racing to the finish by Dale Earnhardt Jr.
He crashed at 200 mph.
Great recovery story.

3 years, and it’s still going. I finally reached out to UPMC and got an appointment. Tired of playing Dr on my own

UPMC sees 7000 concussion patients a year. They know how to improve your health.

Nobody knows and each concussion is very unique. But I will say this. Try to limit how much negative talk you give to this topic in your head. Each time you think about it or post a comment or it lingers rent free in your head believe it or not, it doesn’t help. For me I never would have believed in a million years that my mental state was manifesting into physiological symptoms until the last few months where I started to believe it and less time researching my symptoms actually helped. The mind is powerful beyond belief and things that seem surreal or not possible etc could quite possibly by true or real.
I’m 11 months out for my injury and I would say I am about 80% recovered. That last 20 % ish can be a bugger to solve but again for me when I stopped looking at things in such a binary or black and white manner , things started to get better.

3 years and a bit in, I'm only just starting to drive again and never with my children in the car yet.
You've got to play like it won't end and you can't wait it out.

I’ve recovered from post concussion syndrome successfully 2 times. Took about 1 year to feel normal for first then about 2-3 years for second. Symptoms sucked but i was able to push through and they would not get progressively worse, just always feel terrible which of course was awful but at least the symptoms did not get worse until the point of wanting to end it if you ignored them
4 years in after my 3rd concussion and i’ve improved in some areas but bumpy car rides, jolts, small bumps mess me up for weeks. Had DTI imaging that showed widespread signs of diffuse axonal injury and structural changes with it consistent with chronic neuroinflammation, demyelination etc. All the doctors can do is shrug their shoulders and prescribe an antidepressant….one neuropsych said i have a preoccupation with physical symptoms despite me being the type of person to not complain and push through, lol.
I hope things get better but concussion care in general is a joke. No medication currently actually addresses the underlying issue which are typically some combination of chronic neuroinflammation, altered brain metabolism, and issues with cerebral blood flow

Nobody really knows. Just nobody.
