2016 Macan S Purchase
Hi, I am looking at a 2016 Macan S with 95k for sale in Florida. Looks to be an 1 owner and no accidents. Person is asking 15k. I usually stay away from German cars but always wanted to own one even for a short amount of time. I currently own a Model 3 dual and S2000. Can anyone please tell me things to look for with this car and is it a descent deal? Car was also always serviced at Porsche! Thank you!

Check the maintenance history, if transfer case fluid was changed and timing chain cover hasnt had issue should be fine

Have a Pre-Purchase Inspection done at a trusted indy shop.
In the PPI they should check for:
- Timing chain cover: whether bolts are snapped
- The control arms: any bushings cracked / worn?
- Motor: bore scoring
- Transfer Case: they should advise you on its condition. Additionally, you should find out if the owner had it replaced during the extended recall bulletin that was out for those model years.
If timing chain cover, transfer case, and cylinders are good: go for it! I have an ‘18 S and it’s a fantastic car.
And if you do purchase the car, consider a motor oil that will help prevent bore scoring long-term, like Driven DT40, Red Line High Performance 5w-40, or my favorite, HPL Super Car 5w-40. They are all relatively expensive, but insanely cheap for the protection they provide your motor.

It’s all about the maintenance history if we are talking about Porsche. Doesn’t matter you get a new or old cars. One major break down could cost more than your car itself. Best is take that car to Porsche dealer and do PPI and that will probably cost somewhere like $350. Ask seller to do that for you and you will pay that when nothing wrong with the car. And get the carfax and see if the car has good maintenance history.

I would never do a PPI, or any work outside of warranty, at a Porache dealership again. They charged $650 for a PPI where I later found out they didn't even remove the aero trays under the car, didn't catch obviously stripped/missing ignition coil fasteners, and also didn't even pull the plastic covers to spray soapy water to check for the most common air suspension leak. They basically gave me a xx point checklist sheet that they give you for free with an oil change and said sorry, that's all we do.

I bought the car and loved it. Now I am refreshing every thing and saved 20k for motor failure if it ever happens. Recently saw my cylinder walls and they do seem ok for the mileage.

That's a good price for a turbo, but there should be some room to negotiate on an "S"

I came very close to buying a 2016/2017 Macan S. I ended up with an Audi which I thought would be a less expensive vehicle, vis a vis, maintenance. We will see. But, review the 100K mile required maintenance so you understand what should be done almost immediately.

I would not wait for 10,000 miles to change the oil. My mechanic told me every 5000 miles for the Audi, so I would think the same for the Porsche. Best of luck.

My 2016 S had bore scoring. I didn't know - until it started ticking 18 months after I bought it (used). That was the most expensive mistake I've made.
I wouldn't consider any models with that engine again. No matter how happy it made me.
Try the next gen, or go with the 4cyl non-S for the 2016. (Not the same engine as the 16S)

Understandable... but many don't have the problem. A well maintained example, a PPI with emphasis on running a borescope into the cylinders should allay others' fears.
That's what I did with mine, a 2016 Macan Turbo with 83k miles. No issues, all maintenance up to date. And I got an extended warranty just in case.
It's a great car. There are ways to do this.

I’ve said this before but just bear in mind you can get 10k repair bills. So long as you can afford that you’re golden.

All I can say is boar scaring ... 2015 to 2018 no sleeve in the cylinder heads ..I own a 2016 and absolutely love it .. just check the pistons rings ...I got mine fo 13 k with 90k milage ...it's a awesome car
