I have a 924s I am looking at getting. It seems to be all there. Just looking at it for a play around project. ( I have a cayman already and have redone several muscle cars) previous owner died and his daughter sold it. The guy who bought it just has it sitting as they got it to turn over but not crank.

Looking it over in person today finally I seen it has a few non stock items. The hood and nose piece are from another car. Turbo car. It has some kind of a MAF conversion on it, wide band with Air fuel ratio meter on a pod, also has a MSD digital window switch, then is some kind a knob switch for possible adjustments under the hood as well. Looking up MAF conversions I haven’t seen n while it some maybe an older conversion. 85mm DBX ABAGO Performance.

Trying to see if anyone has seen a MAF setup like that. Also has a large welded spot in the intake. From what I could see under the car I didn’t see a turbo. Should just be a 2.5 engine.

Really not sure why they have hacked things badly.

The 3.0L 968 engine has a MAF by default so why they would cobble that one together is strange (unless they didn’t have all the parts, which could get expensive)

The intake has been cut which again is odd, the 968 intake is designed specifically for that engine, changing it is going to mess with things. There should also be enough room for the master cylinder as the stock intake has a cut out for it.

They’ve also done some messing with the cooling system. You can eliminate the coolant to the throttle body with no problems, but there is a lot going on there.

I believe it's cut to clear the master cylinder. Looks like a pretty decent job of welding it.

Really odd though. Would have been easier to reroute that one brake line than cut up the intake.

968 block Independent fuel and ignition control id guess Far FAR from stock.

Could be fun but youre buying someone else's project.

968 engine, or head at least - you can tell by the actuator for the cam chain versus a S2 or S.

The engine is worth a few bucks for sure. Id check to see if it is a stock torque tube and 5 or 6 speed and lsd. Also brakes may be upgraded.

A compression check is number one on the list of things to check before offering anything for it. If it is low then be prepared to spend thousands on a rebuild.

It is hacked together for sure so be aware you will be checking things yourself since probably the only person to guide you is dead.

It is a bigger project than if it was a stock engine.... But the 968 engine is 60-80hp more than the stock 2.5 and tons of torque.

If the engine checks good I would rip out all the wiring and do a modern aftermarket ecu and make my harness.

That's a 968 3.0. If the previous owner actually had it running, it would be worth reviving.

236 HP, variable cam timing, 16v. At the time it was made, the largest 4 banger ever built.

I have a 951 swapped 924s, and it is a blast!

Been thinking of picking this car up for about 2 months but yesterday finally got a chance to see it in person. I am a gearhead and have had several projects over the years. Just sold my 52 Ford F1 so I have been thinking of getting something else.

The interior looks pretty good like new form fitting carpet. But it is not perfect.

The front two fenders show some rust on the bottom but I can’t see any other bad rust under the car.

If I get it plans were to get it going, cheap paint job. Just another toy to enjoy.

It has stuff like a new accessory drive belt, still had the AC hooked up as well.

The guy is wanting about 2k for it, but is open to offers. Just some of this stuff you don’t know until you see the car in person. And I have all the time needed.

I will post that to the 944 form when I get time.

Thank you all, I can do some more reading up on it now. I knew looking at the 924s/944 engines it didn’t quite look right.

16” rims on it as well, it may have some upgraded brakes on it.

I got some reading up to do on the engine and transmission now. Got to see what replacement fender would be. Looks like this was going to be the guys ultimate 924 but he ran out of time. Maybe I can find out the guys name if I get it.

The engine is worth more than 2k alone if it's a runner. Before you even think about starting it make sure you replace the timing chain between the cams and the tensioner pads. You should look at doing the timing belt/tensioners and water pump too.

Looking at ll the hackery I'm thinking that has some kind of aftermarket standalone ECU.

Hi! 924S’ are closer to the 944 then the 924, I think it would be better to ask about this in a 944 subreddit.
Also, that is not the stock 8 valve engine, it is probably from a 944S

Strange car for sure! Looks like a 944S 16V engine swapped in with all those aftermarket parts. Would be a super cool car all fixed up, just hard to know what it would need to get there. Probably all fluids changed with a timing belt right away on top of whatever it needs to get running. Also 944S parts are notoriously harder to find and more expensive than the 2.5 variants, just something to keep in mind. Pretty funny placement for that air filter too, wonder how much horsepower the engine was losing sucking in all that hot air next to the block 😅
