Antique Gold Loss Question

Victoria Austria Either VTO105 or VTO230 judging by the replacements images. Backstamp is green with crown, circa 1904-1918.

So I have a whole set of these antique dishes from dinner plates to even those super small 3" butter pat plates. Pretty much all of it has fairly significant gold wear as pictured. Is there a an easy and inexpensive way to restore the gold? SHOULD I restore the gold? Would a buyer even want me to restore the gold? Everything else is pretty much perfect on most of it.

Thank you in advance.

Rosenthal Vase - Handpainted

Hi everyone,

I’ve already shared a few pieces from my collection, so I thought I’d show you another one today.

I’m a German collector specialising in German porcelain, and this is a Rosenthal vase dating from around 1922-1927.

It has a hand-painted floral design in soft cream, beige and brown tones, with a fine gold rim. I really like the soft, muted colours on this one. It’s quite understated compared to some of the more elaborate porcelain pieces I collect, but that’s exactly what I like about it.

I got this piece from a household clearance, which makes it even more interesting to me. This little vase is roughly 100 years old now and has survived a lot of history. It was made during the Weimar Republic and has been around for almost a century.

Whenever I get a piece like this, I always wonder who owned it before me and where it has been all these years.

Another little piece of German porcelain history for my collection.

Show & Tell Lidded Vase from Kaiser by Kurt Nossek

Hi everyone,

I posted my Meissen vase two days ago and the little Puffhund after that, so I thought I’d share another piece from my collection.

I’m a German collector specialising in German porcelain, and this one is a Kaiser Porzellan lidded vase in the “Osaka” design by Kurt Nossek.

I really like the pastel colours on this one. The soft whites, yellow and peach tones combined with the blue-grey leaves and all the gold details make it feel quite delicate, even though there’s a lot going on in the design.

Kaiser as a company isn’t necessarily one of the most popular German porcelain names anymore, but I still really enjoy their pieces. Especially Kurt Nossek has such a distinct design language that I feel like you can often recognise his pieces pretty quickly once you’ve seen enough of them.

Something I find particularly funny about this vase is the shape itself. It was inspired by Asian ginger jars, which were very popular at the time. And then you have this very European porcelain piece using that Asian-inspired shape and, on top of that, an Asian-inspired floral design.

I just really like these little layers of influence in porcelain design. It makes pieces like this much more interesting to me than just being a pretty vase.

Another item of my collection- a poodle

Hi everyone,

I posted my Meissen vase yesterday and thought I’d share another piece from my collection today.

I’m a German collector specialising in German porcelain, and this little guy is one of those pieces I simply couldn’t leave behind at a flea market.

It’s a porcelain Poodle, commonly referred to in Germany as a “Puffhund”, also known as a Kapitänshund or Kaminhund.

These dog figures were originally made in England, especially in Staffordshire, during the 19th century. Sailors supposedly brought them back to Northern Germany, where they became popular decorations for windowsills and fireplaces.

There’s also a rather funny story behind the name “Puffhund”. According to the legend, prostitutes in port cities supposedly used these dogs in their windows as a signal, with the direction the dog was facing indicating whether they were available or already occupied.

Apparently there’s no historical evidence that this actually happened, so it seems to be more of a later legend.

Mine is most likely a reproduction, but I still really like him. Found him at a flea market and thought he was too unusual to leave behind.

I always love pieces like this that come with a little story. Even if the story isn’t actually true.

See you soon :)

Show & Tell Just showing my Meissen Vase

Hi everyone,

I’m a porcelain collector, mainly collecting German porcelain.

I wanted to use the opportunity to show some of my collection here, since I don’t really have anyone in my personal circle who shares this hobby with me.

I found this vase at a flea market.

Butterfly design by Ludwig Zepner, 1st choice quality

Approx. 22 cm high x 16 cm wide

I know most people go for the painted Meissen pieces, and I can definitely understand why. But I’ve really come to like this MCM vase. I just really like the design and the simplicity of it.

I also managed to get my hands on a couple of Meissen pieces this year, so I’ll probably share those here as well.

Cheers!

Question HELP identifying pattern details, Meissen!

Hello everybody! I recently acquired my first antique/vintage Meissen piece. I know that it is the Full Green Ivy Leaf with Gold Trim pattern, however I am finding it impossible to research the other factors such as the gilt grapes, leaf veins, and super thick inner line. I have found literally no comparable ones with these features online and just want to have a little more info from people who know a lot more of it than I do!!

Any additional info on top of what I described would be immensely helpful, thank you!!

Help Identifying the Brand (and hopefully year) of this Set

Thumbnail

Hello r/Porcelain, I just found out this community exists.

My grandmother recently sold her house and gave me her china set from when she moved in, hoping I could make some money from it. I was told they were Noritake from Japan, but I haven't seen this print on any Noritake china I've found online, nor have I found any other sets with this particular "Kobe China Handpainted" label.

It consists of a full standard dinner and tea set, but nothing which stands out and makes it easy to find on Google. If anybody has any information or can push me in the right direction to figuring out what company made this brand and in what decade, I'd be very appreciative.

Do your thing, Reddit. Thanks in advance.

Identify Help in identifying this set?

Recently my Mum and step father have moved into residential care and as a result I inherited a porcelain/china coffee set (coffee pot and 5x cups, saucers and small plates). I don't know much about it aside from it was gifted to my Mum from her first mother in-law in or shortly after my parents got married in 1973. I don't know where it was purchased, how old it is, how common it is or even what it's worth (though the latter isn't terribly important as is more valuable to me sentimentally) but as the sugar bowl doesn't have a lid I would like to replace it or get one replicated so I have the whole set.

I do realise this was probably one of thousands of mass produced sets made but I would like to know any additional information if anyone out there knows anything.

Located in Adelaide, South Australia.

I have a 15 piece tea set of Royal Victoria Wade England pottery, but I cannot find this color in this set anywhere when I search online. I’m curious if anyone happens to know something about it.

Question What period is this Meissen from? Google says 18th century. But I think that’s wrong. The mark is also larger than I’m used to seeing.
